A British teenager called Southgate, who had accidentally left his shoulder bag on the roof of a taxi while on vacation in Kanchanaburi, Thailand, was able to recover it, thanks to swift action by the local tourist police. The 19-year-old had traveled from Bangkok and upon arriving at his guesthouse, forgot his bag, which contained his passport and some cash.

The incident was reported by the guesthouse manager, Jiraporn, after a staff member failed to retrieve the bag from the taxi driver, identified as Prasert. Jiraporn turned to the police after CCTV footage showed the driver taking the bag from the roof of the taxi.

Police officers were able to catch up with Prasert while he was on his way to Nakhon Pathom. They found foreign currency on him, leading the 54-year-old driver admitting to tossing away the bag after using the 50 baht it contained to buy cigarettes.

The Tourist Police returned the bag to Southgate and took Prasert for further questioning at Mueang Kanchanaburi police station.
