lannarebirth
Does anyone know where I can lay my hands on a book or website which shows plans for various wooden houses, perhaps with material lists? TIA www.thai-land-house.com Thanks very much JR. Just what I've been looking for.
Joe Walshe
Chrislani, Great photos. Impressive house. Hard to believe you're getting it built for 70,000. Nice size, not too big or small. Area around house looks pleasantly wooded. I, and maybe others, am curious about the foil insulation to underside of roof. I presume this is something you got locally to reflect heat out. Did you source it locally and was it easy to use. I am an Architect/builder in Irerland and we use foil insulation to seal timber frame buildings. I know it is essential to leave an air gap and seal all joints. well done. Joe
Somtham
In the sun, teak will bleach very fast to an ugly grey color. For a good looking house you need an excellent stain with UV protection. I do my house every three four years without any noticeable discoloration What brand are you using for the stain and how many coats are you putting on? rgds

Now they tell me there are newer and better brands . If you’re in the market go to a better store ( like “Home Pro” ) for proper advice. regards

I was not impressed with the results as after about 6 months the stain disappeared on the southern exposed wall. Next time will try Cuprinol and see how it holds up to the UV. Proper advice from someone at Home Pro? You are kidding right?!! rgds
soidog2
Proper advice from someone at Home Pro? You are kidding right?!! rgds Actually I owe you an apology; I looked at the wrong can when I answered you! “Burmese teak" semi gloss" Cuprinol " is what we used, it worked great. After three years it's still holding. I will recoat after the rainy season. If interested I’ll let you know what brand . Yes, there are newer and supposedly better brands with improved UV protection. Yes I found some knowledgeable people at Home Pro in Kurat & Bkk, it all depends how you ask the questions! Regards

I've heard mostly good things about the Cuprinol and so will give it a go when we finish our small project. Which Home Pro in BKK do you go to? I mostly stop in at the one in Future Park when travelling to BKK. thanks and rgds
coldcrush
JB you might be hard pressed to find that amount of good quality teak timber around Buri Ram. It is not grown commercially in our area. use the teak from some old houses - not all wood will be good but still will be cheaper than bringing it from far away. My Wife thinks that ghosts live in the wood taken from old houses, maybe ask your Wife/GF first! Edited October 14, 2007 by coldcrush
