Emergency services were notified of a train fire at the Cho Thavee Company, located in Mueang Kao Subdistrict.
 

Fire trucks were dispatched and upon arrival, responders found a train on fire. The firefighting team, in collaboration with the Mueang Kao Subdistrict Municipality’s prevention department, successfully contained the blaze within a limited area and extinguished it.
 

Approximately 70% of the train was damaged by the fire, but there were no injuries reported.

“Light Rail Transit (LRT) Train Fire Incident Report

 

July 1, a fire broke out, destroying two carriages of a Light Rail Transit (LRT) train inside a construction facility of Cho Thavee Public Company Limited (Cho Thavee PLC), which was in the process of being handed over to Rajamangala University of Technology Isan (RMUTI) after its completion. Forensic investigators are urgently looking into the cause of the fire.

 

Sawan Khon Kaen Samakkhi rescue team, along with fire trucks, responding to a fire that engulfed an LRT train inside the warehouse of Cho Thavee PLC. The tram was part of a research project developed in collaboration with RMUTI, the Office of National Higher Education Science Research and Innovation Policy Council (NXPO), and Cho Thavee PLC. It took approximately one hour to bring the fire under control.


At 11:00, reporters arrived at Cho Thavee PLC's site but were not permitted to take photographs. Forensic investigators, along with professors from RMUTI, were present to inspect the site. Initial reports from security personnel indicated that smoke was seen emanating from the first carriage around midnight, followed by flames that spread quickly. The fire department and rescue teams were promptly notified and arrived to extinguish the fire.


The LRT train consisted of three carriages, of which two were completely destroyed, leaving only their frames and burnt electronic components.


Cho Thavee PLC's management disclosed that the LRT train had been under construction for three years and was scheduled for delivery to RMUTI on the day of the incident. The company assured that they have always adhered to strict safety protocols, including cutting off power after each workday. The LRT train had been fully completed for about a month and was undergoing final inspections before delivery. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation by the forensic teams.”
