Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has called for stringent adherence to Thai laws to safeguard citizens' rights amid concerns about foreign investments affecting the country's transportation and restaurant sectors.

During a recent government meeting, the prime minister highlighted the increase in Thai restaurant businesses and the regulation of transportation licenses, which are strictly non-transferable between legal entities.

The Ministry of Commerce has contested claims that foreign investments have caused a 50% closure rate among Thai restaurants. Contrary to these allegations, statistics reveal that 2,472 new restaurant businesses were registered in the first seven months of 2024, indicating the sector's resilience and growth.

To further support local restaurant enterprises, the ministry has rolled out several initiatives, including training courses, certification programs, and marketing campaigns aimed at promoting Thai cuisine on a global scale.

Addressing concerns in the transportation sector, rumours had circulated about Chinese companies attempting to acquire Thai bus companies. The government has denied these claims, reported NNT.

The Department of Land Transport clarified that public transport service licenses must meet stringent criteria, primarily involving majority ownership and management by Thai nationals. These regulations ensure the government retains control over foreign investments in key sectors to prevent any compromise of Thai interests.

The prime minister's call for stringent adherence underscores the government's commitment to protecting domestic industries while fostering growth and resilience in the face of rising foreign investments. By implementing robust regulatory measures and promoting local initiatives, Thailand aims to secure its economic sectors and preserve its national interests.

Okay Mr Setthra, you have the law that nobody can do anything a THai can do so why are there Chinese based restaurants?? close them all and even the transport business only for Thais, and even a better idea, ban all non Thai companies out of the country.. It will give a boost to your economy, up or down that is for your account.. Thailand has very skilled and educated people enough so no need to import them from other countries. Protect everything and everybody in Thailand and see how far it will bring the country

Another leader who cannot go a day without sprouting some nonsense or other.......

Two months ago he was telling Thai traders to suck it up and get their act together......it's just how trade functions.....oh dear!!!

All Thai products are inferiour to products made in China, not to mention products from the western world.

They want the investment, they want foreign companies, they just don't want the people... at least for not longer than 90 days.

Now Srettha has been booted out from the top position, and the stock market tumbled, it is up to his replacement to decide what to do. Most rich Thais are descended from Chinese so I don't see the decision being urgent.

The only *descent product I can think of is parachutes, but I'm not sure whether Thailand produces them.

Chickenlegs, I could ask you to be banned for making fun of a non native English speaker. But I wont. I meant of course decent.

How is your Norwegian, by the way?
