Heavy Rains, Flash Floods Warning In 15 Provinces

At 04:00 hours today (August 8th), the Meteorological Department of Thailand reported that a tropical depression made landfall in Vietnam last night. It was centered at Lat 18.0 °N, Long 104.0 °E in Nong Khai province of Thailand, with maximum sustained winds of 50 kilometers per hour. It is moving westwards slowly.

It would appear that the leading edge of this system may have just reached Chiang Mai.

Flash flood may occur in Tak, Kanchanaburi and Uthai Thani

At 01:00 hours today (August 9th), the Meteorological Department of Thailand reported that the tropical depression in Phrae province was covering Chiang Mai province. The tropical depression was downgraded to an active low pressure cell which continued weakening and passing the northern province of Mae Hong Son to cover Myanmar at 04:00 hours and the upper Bengal Bay afterwards.

Rain continues over the North and Central, and isolated heavy rain is likely in the western region. People in the provinces of Tak, Kanchanaburi and Uthai Thani should beware of flooding conditions in the following few days. In the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, waves with about two to three meters in height are expected. All ships should proceed with caution while small boats in the Andaman Sea shoul keep ashore during this period.

At the same time, Bangkok metropolis and vicinity will likely see very cloudy condition with almost widespread thundershowers, isolated heavy rain and gust. The minimum temperature will be 24 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature will be 32 degrees Celsius. The speed of southwesterly winds will be around 15 to 30 kilometers per hour.
