September 2, 20241 yr Popular Post Modern vehicles have clearcoats of the duco. Polishing is unnecessary, and likely to do more harm than good. A good wash, after cleaning up road tar with turps, is all that's needed. Apply a wax coat if you are extra fussy. Older cars should have oxidized paint removed with cutting compound, then buffed to a shine, followed by waxing.
