Trump calls Harris a Marxist, a communist, even a fascist. Says one expert: "It's a slur."

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

Per the Los Angeles Times in the following news report.

..."Trump claimed, without a shred of evidence, that Vice President Harris, whom he has dubbed “Comrade Kamala,” “wants this country to go communist.”

...

But his wild punches aren’t landing.... So why is Trump’s free-swinging rhetoric failing?

For one thing, Harris isn’t — and never has been — a Marxist, and most voters appear to recognize that.

...

To be doubly certain, I consulted a leading historian of American Marxism, Paul Buhle, a retired lecturer at Brown University. He said he had looked into Harris’ history and found no evidence of Marxist leanings. “It’s a slur,” he wrote in an email.

It's much too early to say.

Harris was, by an indepdendet body, considered to be one of the most liberal Senators. She proposed fixing grocery prices, which most economists laughed at. Her father is a Marxist scholar. She wanted to abolish private medical insurance at one point, but has now flip flopped.

The Marxist tag may well stick and hit home. We'll only know for sure come election time.

Trump is desperate. All the polls are saying he is losing.

Name calling is all he has got. It's worked for him for years, voters don't buy it anymore.

Every time he tries to actually talk policy, this is what happens.......

From the same report above:

"A Wall Street Journal poll released last week found that the vice president is viewed positively by 49% of voters, a gain of 14% since July.

The same poll found that 59% of voters consider Trump “too extreme” to be president, but only 46% consider Harris too extreme. (That number, 46%, roughly matches already committed Trump voters’ share of the electorate.)"

Then....

From the same OP report:

"She has made some arguably progressive campaign proposals, including a federal ban on “price-gouging” by grocery stores; Trump denounced the idea as “Soviet-style price controls.” But it turned out to be broadly popular: An Economist-YouGov poll last month found that 60% of voters like the idea, including about half of Republicans."

Trump can't win for trying...

That isn't true at all. Several polls this week have him in front. Average is 270 Harris 268 Trump. If the polls are equally wrong like last time Trump wins.

The polls you cite are completley meaningless.

I think you may want to check what economists are saying about these "progressive" price control proposals. Lol.

Say various of the posters here who regularly regurgitate Trump's nonsense name-calling tripe.

Voters know Trump and recognize his name calling and him for what they are... nonsense.

Economists push back on Harris price gouging plan

Washington (AFP) – Kamala Harris's price gouging policy has been criticized by economists and analysts, who say it is an uncompetitive proposal that could end up hurting, and not helping, US consumers.

https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20240824-economists-push-back-on-harris-price-gouging-plan

Harris has completely missed the point about inflation.

  • Popular Post

Look at Thailand - high supply reduces prices. Supply/demand equation 1st year economics. You increase competition through incentives and lower energy prices you increase supply. Prices come down.

  • Popular Post

By the way, this "progressive" price fixing plan was how the French monarchy wanted to lower the price of bread before the French revolution.

It didn't work out too well for them.

Lol.

I did... in order to highlight the inanity and inaccuracy of Trump's name calling directed against VP Harris.

As the OP report further noted:

"For another thing, Harris has moved quickly and effectively to define her positions as squarely within the mainstream of current Democratic thinking: liberal, but a long way from anything resembling Marxism, which calls for government ownership of major industries."

The majority of the public understand that, and recognizes Trump's tripe for what it is.

JFK's father, Joseph Kennedy, was a Nazi sympathizer and anti-Semitic. It didn't seem to hurt JFK.

During the WWII bombing of London., Kennedy moved his family out to the country, abandoning the American embassy. The move prompted Randolph to remark " I thought my daffodils were yellow, until I met Joe Kennedy".

Trump will throw as much mud as he can, hoping some will stick. The Democrats don't need to, the mud is already there.

Have you got a link of even one time where Harris called Hitler even once?

It was Vance who called Trump Hitler.

EEight years ago, J.D. Vance privately confessed his true feelings about Donald Trump. “I go back and forth between thinking Trump is a cynical <deleted> like Nixon who wouldn’t be that bad (and might even prove useful),” he wrote on Facebook, “or that he’s America’s Hitler.

I hope it won't hurt Harris. Her father is an impressive man I respect a lot.

Hopefully she'll lose because she's an incompetent. Surely that's enough?

Trump wants to put at least 10% tariffs on every import.

Sounds like a socialist policy to me.

 Biden had high tariffs.

Trump is under the delusion the tariffs will be paid by the country exporting goods and services. In reality, American consumers pay.

Of course it's a slur. Nobody actually believes Harris is a bona fide Fidel Castro. How naive are you?

The purpose of the slur is to create an image in voters' minds that is negative. Not to convince them of the actual truth.

He has had a somehwhat promiscuous relationship with the truth. Even his supporters would grant that, lol.

Then again Kamala Harris lied through her teeth a few days ago. Her values have not changed. Just every single policy I ever espoused. Lol.

It's expected that politicians lie.
