Residents Raise Alarm Over Dangerous Utility Pole in Middle of Road in Sattahip

Residents of Na Jomtien in Sattahip District have voiced serious concerns over a utility pole that has left dangerously in the middle of a road near a sharp curve behind the local municipal office. The hazard, which lacks warning signs or proper lighting, has left the community worried about potential accidents.

On September 6, local reporters visited the site, located on Soi Na Jomtien 44, connecting to Soi Na Jomtien 46 in Village 3, Na Jomtien Subdistrict. The issue arose after the Na Jomtien Municipality undertook a road construction project in the area, specifically on Soi Na Jomtien 44.

The new road, 5 metres in width and 530 metres in length, was part of a concrete road construction project costing approximately 1,700,000 baht, was scheduled for completion within 90 days, starting on May 31, 2024, and due to be completed on August 28, 2024.

During the inspection, it was revealed that the utility pole is positioned directly in the middle of the concrete road at a sharp curve. Alarmingly, there are no warning signs or streetlights to alert drivers of the potential danger. Only a few plastic barriers have been placed around the pole, raising fears that both residents and tourists traveling through the area are at significant risk of accidents.

Local residents are now urgently calling on the relevant authorities to investigate and resolve the situation before any harm occurs. While the construction of the road has been completed, there has been no clear indication of when or if the pole will be relocated.

  • It's the new test of drivers reactions time, anyone hitting the poll will not be able to renew their license......makes perfect sense to me. 🙂

They only seem to fix these type of things when there's publicity

Yes, after 3 or 4 accidents or a death or two.

I presume the pole was there first!

What was there first - the road, or the pole? :coffee1:

To be fair it's not actually in the 'middle' of the road :whistling:

If you were to run into the pole creating many expenses for  body repair to yoursellf and the car then went to ask for compensation from the local community  the first reaction would be laughter.

End result will be 0 compensation.

It amazes me that none of the relevant 'authorities' EVER notice danger until there's an outcry, usually after a death or two!

behind the local municipal office

Is it staffed by blind officials?  Is the road ever used by police?

And right around a blind bend in the middle of that lane, if you don't die from the impact, it looks like you'd be electrocuted.

Nice to see different agencies working together...................:cheesy:

Exactly, seen this many times in Thailand and that is indeed the answer - not my job!!!

Do people have nothing better to do than complain?.....just drive around it for goodness sake.

The new pole is already installed at the side of the road, they just haven't moved the wires over yet.....sheesh, storm in a teacup

Might be less dangerous if it were?

Reminds me of an oldie....

'walking down the road I see one guy digging a trench, I ask him what he's doing...  "Its my job to dig the trench"....   I walk further down the line and see another guy filling in the trench, I ask him what he's doing...  "Its my job to fill in the trench".....   I ask... "and you do this every day ?"... and the guy answers, yes, but usually theres also a third guy who lays the cables'....

This fits perfectly in the 'not my job' section of workers...

Please confirm the picture that you claim depicts England.

Sorry it was a quick Google image search, I just saw "Newcastle". But it is Newcastle in Australia.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7620679/Power-pole-erected-middle-road-n-Newcastle-street-widened.html

Can't be arsed searching specifically for British ones as it is not important, my point has been made that idiocy and miscommunication between government agencies is universal and not "only in Thailand" as the poster I was replying to said.

Did the pole vault there or were the construction crew pissed up?

But they got the middle of the lane spot-on...

You're right. And that was exactly my reaction.
