Crisis in Mae Sai: Floods Leave Residents Trapped

Mae Sai, Chiang Rai Province, is grappling with a severe flood crisis, with numerous residents stranded in their homes and sending out distress calls from multiple areas. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has confirmed significant damage across two sub-districts and five villages, as authorities scramble to assess the full extent of the impact.

 

The flooding in Mae Sai and Chiang Khong districts has left many communities devastated. Mae Sai has been particularly hard-hit by the sudden and relentless deluge. According to reports from the DDPM, two sub-districts and five villages have already suffered substantial damage.

 

 

Amid the ongoing disaster, social media platforms, particularly Facebook, have become vital lifelines. In community groups like “Mae Sai Residents,” locals are posting urgent pleas for assistance while also providing real-time updates on the situation in various parts of the district.

 

The flood has crippled daily life, with homes, businesses, and public infrastructure suffering heavy losses. Emergency services are responding to rescue requests, but the scale of the disaster has overwhelmed available resources. Residents in the most severely affected areas have been left without basic supplies and are calling for immediate relief efforts.

 

Authorities are urging people to avoid traveling in flooded areas and to remain indoors as they coordinate rescue and relief operations. Meanwhile, volunteers and local officials are trying to deliver essential items such as food, drinking water, and medical supplies to the stranded residents.

 

Efforts to mitigate the impact are ongoing, but it is expected that recovery will take time, given the widespread damage already reported. As floodwaters continue to rise in some areas, the immediate priority remains ensuring the safety and well-being of the residents affected.

Seems the whole world is flooding at the moment.

Spain, India, China, Saudi, Vietnam, Philippines, USA, Switzerland ........ my Facebook page is full of reels of extreme flooding.

 

Chiang Mai will be next, the river is already over the banks near the Iron Bridge and Wat Fa Ham.

Just this moment stopped raining for the first time in 36hrs.

Yet, in Lamphun nothing too horrible unlike last year's rainstorms which caused horrible situations where we had two 1metre high floods.  However, a flooding nightmare for the surrounding provinces.

Maybe this is tempting Fate but so far has been a relatively dry Wet season (this is referencing where I live in Lamphun province - Amphoe Li).
