Ryan Wesley Routh painted a vivid picture of himself online. He claimed to build housing for homeless people in Hawaii, attempted to recruit fighters for Ukraine against Russia, and his political views oscillated wildly from supporting Donald Trump to urging Iran to assassinate him.

In his self-published book, "Ukraine’s Unwinnable War" (2023), Routh called Trump a “fool” and a “buffoon” for the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, and for withdrawing from the Iran nuclear deal. Routh claimed to have initially voted for Trump and blamed himself partly for the rise of a "brainless" president.

Routh, 58, was arrested on Sunday after reportedly stalking the GOP presidential nominee while he was golfing in West Palm Beach, Florida, armed with an SKS-style rifle. His extensive online presence, public records, and various media portrayals reveal a complex character with a criminal past and a myriad of political affiliations, ranging from Bernie Sanders and Tulsi Gabbard to Nikki Haley and Trump.

Voter records indicate that Routh registered as an unaffiliated voter in North Carolina in 2012 and most recently voted in person during the Democratic primary in March. He also made 19 small donations totaling $140 through ActBlue, a PAC supporting Democratic candidates, since 2019.

In a June 2020 tweet following George Floyd’s murder by police, Routh suggested Trump could win reelection by issuing an executive order to combat police misconduct. However, his later posts expressed support for Biden and Harris, voicing disdain for Trump. He even urged Biden and Harris to visit victims of an assassination attempt at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania.

Routh’s book featured on Amazon detailed his frustration with the political dichotomy, declaring, “I get so tired of people asking me if I am a Democrat or Republican as I refuse to be put in a category.” He believed the world would be better if managed by women, criticizing men for their "insecurity and childlike intelligence."

Routh frequently posted about global conflicts, notably Ukraine, through his fundraising and volunteer recruitment website for Kyiv. A photo on his site shows him grinning and clad in U.S. flag-themed attire, proclaiming in an online video, “This is about good versus evil.” He tweeted, “I am going to fight and die for Ukraine.”

Despite his fervent online advocacy, Routh never served with the Ukrainian army or their military services. -Oleksandr Shahuri from the Ukrainian Ground Forces Command described Routh’s periodic communications as “delusional.”

Routh’s criminal history includes a 2002 felony conviction for explosives possession following a standoff with police in Greensboro, North Carolina. He was also convicted in 2010 for possessing stolen goods, along with numerous misdemeanors. Remarkably, Routh received probation or a suspended sentence in both felony cases, avoiding prison time.

In 2018, Routh relocated to Kaaawa, Hawaii, to build small wooden sheds aimed at alleviating homelessness. His LinkedIn profile emphasized combating Hawaii's severe gentrification. Despite these ventures, neighbors like Christopher Tam remember Routh as respectful and kind, making his recent arrest all the more shocking.

As Routh’s activities continue to unfold, it’s clear his narrative is as convoluted as it is disturbing, raising questions about the fine line between advocacy and extremism.

A real wiz-bang, perhaps a good candidate for mkultra.
