The Marriage Equality Bill has been royally endorsed and published in the Royal Gazette,  making Thailand the third country in Asia, after Taiwan and Nepal, to legalize same-sex marriage. The new law will come into effect after 120 days on January 22nd.


The founder of Bangkok Pride announced plans to host a large-scale wedding ceremony in Bangkok on that day, with over a thousand LGBTQ couples expected to participate.

 

The first 3 million needy and disabled people — out of a total of 14.5 million — should have received their 10,000-baht handout under the government’s digital wallet scheme which takes effect today, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra was due to take part in the official launch this morning. 

 

The prime minister emphasized today that the government's top priority is addressing the flood crisis, aiding victims, and rehabilitating communities in the north. . communities in  Mae Sai and Chiang Rai, have been severely impacted, experiencing the worst flooding in 30 years. The government has suspended electricity fees for flood-affected residents in affected areas for this month.


The cost of damage from the floods in the region is estimated at about 3 billion baht. 


The new cell emergency broadcast system, enabling weather warnings to reach all mobile devices in a target area, will be operational by the second quarter of next year. Testing will begin early next year.

 

The English Premier League has launched an anti-piracy campaign in Thailand as the new football season begins. Along with Indonesia, Thailand is part of the initiative to protect Premier League broadcast rights and promote legal viewing. An estimated 38.7 million people in Thailand watch  Premier League   matches through legal channels.

Singapore's former Transport Minister Iswaran yesterday pleaded guilty to receiving gifts while in office, in the first case of graft involving a minister.


He was charged with receiving favours that include tickets to English Premier League soccer matches and to the Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix,


The story has gripped Singapore which prides itself on having a well-paid and efficient bureaucracy and strong governance.
