The Department of Transport has impounded five coaches from a garage in Nakhon Ratchasima, owned by the same tour company involved in the fatal crash that killed 23 students and teachers on Tuesday. Two transport officials responsible for vehicle inspections have been transferred, pending an investigation into their role in approving the roadworthiness of the bus involved in the accident.


A 38-year-old armed man took two men hostage in a house in north Bangkok. Initially police thought the hostages were children,  a woman in the house escaped earlier. The suspect, dressed in camouflage, opened fire, injuring a police officer and a resident. Fearing for the hostages' safety, police delayed storming the house.

 

When they finally raided it, the former boxer had already managed to escape.


The Narathiwat court has issued an arrest warrant for a 74-year-old Pheu Thai MP and former Army general over the 2004 Tak Bai massacre. Representing the victims' families, the Cross Cultural Foundation notes the general failed to respond to a summons. He is now one of seven defendants facing charges for allegedly colluding in the deaths of 85 protesters.


BYD EV car owners filed a complaint yesterday, claiming the company's aggressive marketing is unfair. They reported difficulties accessing free electric car charging promised for a year. Consumer protection officials urged the government to review BYD's pricing and improve charging access


Thailand has risen to 28th in the 2024 "Best Countries in the World" ranking by the ‘US News & World Report’, up one spot from last year. The ranking, based on insights from 17,000 respondents across 89 countries, evaluates factors such as  cultural heritage, quality of life, business friendliness, and future growth potential. Switzerland ranked first with a perfect score of 100.
