it will be the FIA who run the event with highly trained marshals from all over the world

The lack of discipline and the dismal safety standards would be the first hurdle! The ethics and morals of the authorities there would be the next and so on!

A country with one of the highest road fatalities on the planet speaks for itself, the carrot for the FIA would have to be ginormous!!!!

What the ministers need to check is the tax on importing cars into Thailand. I remember back in the 1990s this was proposed and I believe there are some "Amazing" Thai taxation laws on not only the racing cars but all the support vehicles that simply made it impractical to hold an F1 race in Thailand.

I suspect, as usual, nobody has bothered to check why this hasn't happened before?

Biggest issue may be that the track is privately owned. And this is another group’s attempt to launch a separate project affiliated with the government. Lots of new government contracts to issue. Wink wink! 

While Buriram is up to FIA standard, it's never on the card for F1, not enough attractions, and look at the recent additions to F1 calendar, all street circuit, which is more of a spectacle for TV, Buriram's got none of that

Key word being “international”.   Thai standards on domestic safety matters are very poor or nonexistent

I think when it comes to Aviation they know that they have to keep themselves up to International standards or the governing bodies will shut the country down. They're so dependent on tourism dollars that they would never want that to happen, but when it comes to something like traffic safety, especially if it were a road course as opposed to an enclosed course like they have in Buriram, that would have to be a huge concern. 

 

So I guess the answer is yes and no, all depending on the area we're discussing. In general the safety standards are very lax, most would agree with that.

It would cost far less and would be less of a hassle to deal with. The propensity of the FIA and Liberty Media to opt for street circuits is quite frankly insane. Dedicated circuits are how you get the cars to come alive. This isn't just a bad idea for Thailand, it's a bad idea for the sport in general. Sure, Albon gets a home race, but again, you have Buriram and it's a solid track. 

 

Buriram has only 3 hotel rooms within 50km. That's why no one can get to see the MotoGP race.

F1 in Bangkok?   With Bangkok's high quality roads and never any traffic jams?  Dream on.

I think this has a low probability of success and will eat up valuable resources that can be used for other gimmicks that will have a longer life.

Singapore malaysia have 1 why not bangkok it would work as a st circuit.The cost i don,t know but soon the red bull man time clock is up.Maybe he can sort that out as a return gift to the city.All is forgotten now

The Malaysian GP failed because there were not enough spectators, I believe . Only 47,000 whereas 147 ,000 are needed to make it cost effective.  A purpose built track outside of Pattaya near the proposed 'Entertainment' area might be a possibility. But, sadly, I doubt it.

Local whispers say that there is a good probability that the U Tapau circuit could become a reality, the government/navy already own all the land south of Sukhumvit from Ban Chang to Kilo Sip, with the upgrades coming to the airport, the 7 motorway, high speed railway etc. We can hope!

Why don't they try something that is actually plausible? Maybe that's a stupid question... but sea sports should be a venue they could succeed in. I know they have sailing and jet ski racing, although I rarely hear much at all about them, other than from friends who are involved in them... but what about sea sports like diving, spear fishing, offshore or coastal rowing, canoe ocean racing, wind surfing... world class sea sport competitions... Oops... I just realized the folly of my idea...."world class"🫣🥸

Caveat: There may actually be some international competitions of some of those sports that I don't know about, but if there is, they are sorely under-reported, just like how incredibly under-reported and under-sponsored the Phuket King's Cup Regatta is. It has been around for a long time, maybe I'm missing something... but it seems that it could have been brought to a higher level than at present. It's a high level for the region, but after being around for over 30 years... it just seems that it would have been given higher visibility and support to advance it more. I guess F1 is glitzier? What good is glitz if it is unobtainable?

I could see this catching on with Thais. And if they could host an international competition like this, they could make it a two day event by having a local event with modified Tuk Tuks running the course the day before!
