Minister Pushes for Bangkok F1 Race Plan with 2024 Deadline

Featured Replies

They have been in discussions on this for 7 years that I know of - probably much longer.  Apparently with a few tweaks Burriram circuit would be up to standard but the location and availability of accommodation put it out of contention.

As I said in an earlier post - if Liberty Media or the FIA get the slightest whiff of corruption, all will be over. I suspect there'll be slightly more than a whiff of it.

Can you imagine the FIA issuing a spec, the Thai's agreeing to it and then building it the 'Thai way'? it would get knocked back at every inspection. They would be totally baffled as to why the 'inspections' can't be sorted out over dinner. They just wouldn't get it - follow a spec? Fully? Correctly?

FIA, they joking chai mai Somchai?

Another 'money drain'. I believe that it will never happen. F1 tracks have quite strict safety and rules and regulations. Something that is rarely adhered to here in the land of smiles.

Apologies for the confusion, it is the opposite of what I posted.

They still have MotoGP, but they lost SBK

I believe it may have been a very poor attempt at humour. Which, when you think how many little childen died, alongside their teachers in that tragedy, it is pretty sick minded.:1zgarz5:

The bus tragedy was a sad day for Thailand but again it is an indication of Thai peoples ethics, education and poor standards just to make a dollar!  So its all connected, an F1 street race in Thailand would be disasterous given their levels of safety, integrity and lack of attention to detail. Buriram track would be ok but too far off the beaten track with insufficient supporting infrastructure.

Since when?

It was designed to mimic a street circuit on Ile Notre Dame. Cars can drive on it when there isn't a race as you drive around the island. There are public roads and purposefully built sections.

The Burriram Circuit is up to spec, already has FIA approval, but for testing only at this stage. The major downfall is the lack of a nearby major head trauma unit (or it was at the time), but although not mentioned, yes, lack of accommodations and infrastructure in general would probably still prohibit it.
