Problems with Thai government websites, or their computer systems? - Never heard of such a thing... 😆

I'm sure that by 2567 (pun intended) they will have sorted out all glitches. 🤔

I suspect that the equipment as it is now at the automated arrival gates may not be able to read the QR codes on the ETA forms and compare them with the relevant database.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Incidentally, who is designated to issue the ETA, a department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (eg Consular Division) or of the Ministry of Interior ( eg Immigration Bureau)?

According to the MFA website it is their job, through the Department of Consular Affairs.

It's going to be interesting to watch how this develops, how the Department of Consular Affairs of the MFA wrests control over who is allowed to enter Thailand from the Immigration Bureau of the Ministry of Interior. It will be a comical show that takes quite a while to end.

The real reason for the ETA?

Payment would be similar to South Korea's K-ETA registration system, which requires foreign travellers to register and make an online payment before entering the country.

Once the government approves this project, the ministry will start a procurement process to recruit software developers and insurance companies to offer insurance policies for foreign tourists, he said.

The insurance premium for tourists is capped at no more than 60 baht per person, out of 300 baht collected.

For S.Korea it was about $9 and it took about 10 minutes.  S. Korea does not need to recruit softward developers because their I.T. systems are world class.
