Hi,

 

currently I'm spending a few months every year in Thailand, the rest in Farangland.

 

So far I have been using a DTAC physical SIM card which I would just insert into a new Android phone every couple of years whenever I upgraded my phone or the old phone died. And only insert it while in Thailand of course.

 

Now I'm thinking of replacing DTAC SIM with eSIM, for extra convenience, no more need to swap SIMs when traveling in and out of Thailand.

 

But what happens when my phone dies when I'm in Farangland?

 

How can I transfer eSIM to a new phone in such a case?

I dont know about DTAC, but I couldnt transfer an AIS Sim card to an ESim when I was in the USA and I couldnt download one, nor could I do it in Cambodia. So I guess Ill make a trip to the Phone place I use near my bank in EmQuartier, because I cant transfer my bank account to a new phone while overseas.

Meanwhile I found another solution which works for me: I got one of my farang SIM cards transferred to eSIM.

 

Now I can keep my physical DTAC SIM permanently in slot 2 of my phone. While an eSIM is active, any physical SIM in slot 2 is ignored.

 

When I arrive in Thailand I will just turn off the farang eSIM and then DTAC SIM in slot 2 will become active.

i'd be weary of putting hard to replace thai numbers (without access to their shops) on e-sim if I'll not be in Thailand for a while, if the phone goes wrong, physical sims mean you can just eject the sim and put in any phone, but e sim- unless tied to your account like Apple's iPhone, you'll need to access your old phone to do that- hard to do if phone's broken 

 

most e-sim transfer like apple's phone require authentication from the old phone, not useful if broken
 

Only True and seem to have clear insruction on being able to move to e-sim via their app or website without need for old phone or visiting their physical stores

 

with Dtac merged with True, hopefully the procedure will be similar

Thanks ... yes I was thinking the same actually.

 

Over the years a couple of phones have died, but I never had a problem with a SIM card.

 

But the True procedure sounds good. Hopefully DTAC will adopt this in the future.

 

Currently if you want to login to DTAC prepaid account website you ned to enter a OTP which is sent to your phone. This obviously doesn't work if there's something wrong with your phone.
