A 66-year-old Trang resident, Mr. Suthep (surname withheld), has confessed to shooting his neighbour, Mr. Phongsak (surname withheld), a 56-year-old retired civil servant from the Ministry of Public Health, following a dispute. The incident, which occurred on October 11, in the Ko Klang Subdistrict of Mueang District, Trang Province, left Mr. Phongsak with serious injuries. Fortunately, he is now in stable condition after receiving medical attention.

According to Mr. Suthep, the argument arose when he asked his neighbour to stop burning garbage, as the smoke was affecting his asthma. The situation quickly escalated when Mr. Phongsak allegedly responded with an offensive comment, saying, “Are you going to die?” and brandished a machete. In response, Mr. Suthep fired a warning shot into the air, but when Mr. Phongsak continued to approach, he shot him in self-defense, striking him in the face.

Following the shooting, Mr. Suthep fled the scene but later coordinated with family members and his lawyer to turn himself in at Trang City Police Station on October 12. He handed over the revolver used in the incident and was questioned by police for over two hours. During the interrogation, Mr. Suthep admitted to the shooting, citing long-standing tensions with his neighbour.

Police have charged Mr. Suthep with attempted murder. Although the charge is serious, investigators did not oppose bail, and Mr. Suthep has applied for release while awaiting trial. He will fight the case through legal proceedings.

How many times must it be said to bring in a 2 year minimum sentence here just for possession of an illigal gun, yet alone for using it out in public with intension to kill 5 yrs min.

The victim should also share the blame IMO. I guess he will continue to light fires, with no regard for neighbors and to cap it all off he worked for the Ministry of Public health.
