Why Type Visa For In/out Of Thailand?

Featured Replies

I'm an U.S. citizen and usually travel to Thailand every three months for a 10-day visit. I've never gotten a visa in advance, but instead just get my passport stamped upon arrival. My last visit was in April and I will arrive again in September. This visit I am plannning a two week trip to first arrive in Thailand and then visit both Laos and Cambodia for a few days each during the two week period, returning to Thailand after each visit. Will these visits to Laos and Cambodia count as multiple entries? Will I be denied the ability to return into Thailand? If I can't just get my passport stamped upon arrival in Thailand during this two week period, what type of visa do I need that will allow me to arrive in Thailand and visit both Laos and Cambodia, and return to Thailand, during the two week period?

You are allowed to stay a maximum of 90 days in Thailand on visa-exempt entries within six months. Based on your travel history and travel plans, you are not reaching this limit and therefore do not need a visa to travel to Thailand for your forthcoming visit.

It is possible that on any one of your visa-exempt entries Immigration may ask you to show evidence of confirmed onward travel out of Thailand within 30 days from your entry. Presumably, you have a return flight ticket to the USA and thus have no problem in this regard.

They are not interested how many times you enter/exit during the 6 month period as long as you don't stay in Thailand more than a total of 90 days? I recall from reading many posts when these new laws went into effect that it was either 3 entries or a total of 90 days in a 6 month period, so even if you made 3 entries for 7 days each during a 6 month period (21 days total), for example, you wouldn't be allowed to re-enter again for 3 months. Is this incorrect?

Incorrect. There has never been an limit to the number of entries.

Most of the people who posted that information used the full 30 days on each entry so for them it would mean they could only do three times in a row as that would result in the 90 day total.
