A fatal collision occurred in the early hours of October 23 in Chanthaburi, when a motorcyclist driving against traffic was struck by an SUV, leading to the rider’s death and causing injuries to the SUV driver after the vehicle overturned.

The incident took place on Raksak Chamuon Road, as the motorcyclist, identified as 30-year-old Suradet (surname withheld), was riding in the wrong direction. The SUV, a white Toyota Fortuner with Bangkok plates, lost control after the collision, flipped over the median, and came to rest on the opposite side of the road. The driver of the SUV, a man who sustained leg injuries, was trapped in the wreckage. Rescue workers used specialised equipment to free him and rushed him to Phra Pokklao Hospital.

Suradet was found dead approximately 30 metres from the collision site, lying near a streetlight in the road’s median. His motorcycle, severely damaged and broken in half, was located in the left lane of the outbound road.

Initial investigations by local police revealed that Suradet was riding his motorcycle against the flow of traffic after leaving a convenience store near Sirikarn Temple. He was likely attempting to make a U-turn when the speeding SUV, heading in the correct direction, collided with him. The impact threw both Suradet and his motorcycle in different directions, killing him instantly.

Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage and dash-cam recordings from the area to determine the exact cause of the incident and gather more evidence to complete the investigation.
