This is my America sadly
I could list 20 reasons why my life here is something I am grateful for every day of my life. But, it wouldn't even register for you. You obviously need to justify why the US is so great. If I was making millions a year, I would live there too. At least long enough to retire, and then leave. I was just there. Not like I am making this stuff up. The day I leave is always the best day of my trip to the US! First hand always beats the junk you read. -

UN Warns World on Verge of Missing Critical Climate Goals
Nature, the being that dictates what happens on the planet didn't design humans to last that long. In the natural course of life we'd be dead before we became a burden on society. While I'm not advocating putting old people in the forest for wild animals to eat, IMO we have to wake up and realise that keeping people alive past use by date isn't working out too well. Problem is that medical science can keep people alive, but it can't make them function properly past a certain age. Death is a part of life, but we have become so isolated from nature that we think we are clever, when we ain't. Before anyone points the finger, I have a DNR order so I won't be hanging around as a profit unit for some dreadful "rest home" company to exploit. -

Ammonia Leak at Ice Factory Triggers Chaos in Udon Thani; Six Workers Rescued
Panic swept through Udon Thani on the evening of October 26, as an ammonia gas leak at an ice factory trapped six workers inside, prompting a tense rescue operation. Nearby residents reported difficulty breathing and a stinging sensation as they scrambled to escape the area. At around 18:00, Udon Thani’s emergency response centre, received a report from locals who noticed a strong ammonia odour emanating from an ice factory on Adulyadej Lane in Udon Thani Municipality. Upon learning that six workers were trapped inside, authorities immediately contacted Udon Thani’s police and the Sangsomtham Rescue Unit, alongside municipal disaster relief teams, who quickly arrived at the scene. Rescue teams cordoned off the entire road for safety, advising residents and motorists to steer clear of the area. Using loudspeakers, officials urged people to remain at least 200 metres from the scene to avoid exposure to the toxic gas. Rescuers, equipped with protective suits, entered the factory, successfully sealed the gas valve, and safely evacuated the six trapped workers without injury. One local resident, living adjacent to the factory, described the frightening moments: “The ammonia smell hit us hard. I could barely breathe, and my body was stinging. We rushed out of our homes and called for help.” Fortunately, the quick response by multiple agencies averted a larger crisis in the densely populated area. Picture from responders. -- 2024-10-27 -

Herpes Zoster vaccination
The prime determinant is: Did you have chicken pox as a child? Shingles is caused by the varicella-zoster virus — the same virus that causes chickenpox. After you've had chickenpox, the virus stays in your body for the rest of your life. Years later, the virus may reactivate as shingles. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/shingles/symptoms-causes/syc-20353054 -

Met Police Officer Dismissed Over Abusive Online Posts
Pity then that the Met is better at firing people for nasty posts than stopping crime. I never felt safe in London and never a cop to be seen on the beat. Only time I saw cops was after a terrorist incident when they were standing around in the Tube station with guns pretending to look tough. -

Many people, and even people who support Kamala no matter what, are realizing this: Kamala knows less about policy, news, existing public controversies, and even recent history, than most people who read TwitX or the New York Times or even listen to the news on radio or TV. I believe that anyone on the street or even on this forum (except for those on my "ignore" list) knows more about what's going on than what Kamala knows. It's like she's totally oblivious and has no clue about anything. It's as if Kamala hasn't paid much attention to anything for many years. Interviewers are trying their best to be kind to her, but even the slightest bit of pushback on what she knows shows that she knows nothing. I am beyond thinking that she is being cagey or clever in her responses. Much of it is that she doesn't know and just uses a lot of filler to cover it up. Maybe she left everything to staff over these many years. Kamala has always been a smiling face that has gotten by faking it. She's been doing it for so long that she knows no other way. Now being thrust into a run for POTUS, she has to know a minimum something about everything, and she is totally unprepared to deal with it. Her supporters -- at least the intellectually honest ones -- are as mortified by her nonsense as anyone; but they'll never admit it.- 1

Two Students Drown in Sattahip After Being Swept Away by a Whirlpool
Two students lost their lives while cooling off in an irrigation dam in Sattahip, Chonburi. The two were pulled under by a powerful whirlpool, disappearing before the eyes of their friends who frantically called for help, though rescuers arrived too late. At approximately 17:00 on October 26, Police Sub-Lieutenant Pornchai Lueapol of the Plutaluang Police Station was alerted to the incident at the Bang Phai Canal overflow dam in Moo 2, Plutaluang Subdistrict, Sattahip District. He immediately coordinated with the Sawang Rojanatham Sathan Sattahip Diving Team, Rayong’s Sawang Por Rescue Unit, and the Sawang Boriboon Foundation in Pattaya. Upon arrival, divers searched the area for nearly an hour before finding the bodies of the victims, identified as 13-year-old Kwan and 15-year-old Gun, at the bottom of the dam. Heartbroken family members were present, grieving the tragic loss of their loved ones. Friends of the victims recounted that the group had ridden motorcycles to the dam for a swim during the school break. While playing near the dam’s overflow, Kwan and Gun were swept into the current and pulled under by the whirlpool. The friends quickly called authorities for assistance, but unfortunately, the pair had already drowned by the time divers recovered their bodies. Police have documented the scene and plan to question the friends further to determine the exact circumstances. Both bodies have been sent for autopsy to confirm the cause of death.
