August 6, 200718 yr My 24 year old step-daughter is going to the UK to do an MSc. However she has to do a Pre-sessional english course there first. She applied for a visa and was only granted one to cover the english course plus one week. With a standard letter reply saying that this is the norm now, if the offer is conditional on completing an english course and to apply in the UK to extend her visa. At a cost I understand of some £300! The main problem is can she travel (by Thai Airways) on a one way ticket? I have been to the airport, talked to customer service, ticketing and checkin..they are all dodging the issue and no-one will answer yes or no. Checkin said contact Head Office.. they were no use either. Ticketing in BK said if we sell you the ticket we will let you travel but would not put it in writing. We said that we are buying from an agent..so Thai said ask the agent..the agent said ask Thai. I am aware of what the airline has to pay if the UK refuse entry. Anyone actually know the answer?
August 6, 200718 yr The immigration rules do not require her to have a return ticket. If she were to be refused entry, the airline would not be charged £2000.00 as she is otherwise properly documented, but they would have to meet the cost of returning her to Thailand. However, in this unlikely scenario, she would have the right of appeal before being removed from the U.K. Scouse.
