Pattaya: Burmese Man’s Disturbance Keeps Entire Area Awake

Pattaya’s Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Centre received a distress call at approximately 22.05 on October 29, from residents in Soi Sukhumvit 27, Naklua Sub-district, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi. A man, believed to be either mentally unstable or under the influence of drugs, was reportedly causing a disturbance behind residential homes, upsetting locals and disrupting the community’s peace.

 

The rescue team coordinated with Bang Lamung police and volunteer responders to address the situation. Arriving at the scene, officials discovered a foreign man, later identified as Burmese and estimated to be between 20-30 years old. The man was behaving erratically, screaming loudly from within a muddy canal, alarming nearby residents, including families, children, and elderly individuals. His loud cries echoed throughout the area, preventing many from getting any peace.

 

Upon arrival, rescue workers attempted to persuade the man to come out of the water and cease his disruptive behaviour. Despite efforts to calm him, he continued his screaming, showing no response to the rescue team’s pleas. As officials searched for any friends or relatives who might assist, nearby migrant workers grew increasingly anxious, fearing police involvement.

 

A group of Burmese workers eventually took matters into their own hands, jumping into the canal, restraining the man, and reprimanding him, reportedly in Burmese. Though onlookers couldn’t understand the words, it was believed they scolded him for attracting police attention. After briefly disciplining him, the workers handed him over to the authorities, restoring calm to the area.

 

Ms. Nuchada Saenkhampan, a 26-year-old resident, explained, “At first, we were frightened by the strange noises. But after listening closely, we realised it was a person and began searching for the source. Once we located him in the canal, we feared he might be in danger, so we contacted officials for help.”
