Non-O Marriage Extension Visa Documents - Questions

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I've read a lot of conflicting info, accounts from people doing their Non-O extension.

I got my Non-O (Marriage) visa from my home country of Australia, valid for 3 months, and now I'm about to do the extension for 1 year in Bangkok.

I reviewed the official document and also nice detailed post, but from Chiang Mai after Covid.

I know there's a line at the end that implies the immigration officer can ask for any other documents they want, and so, there are not clear answers for everything as it's sometimes up to their mood.

I'd like to know people's experience in Bangkok however.

I have gathered all documents as per the Chiang Mai guide, which included even more things than the official guide, but:

  1. Kor Ror 2. I have the copy of the document from when we got married in Thailand. Do I really need to go get another new copy?
  2. Do I need to get the single status affirmation for the extension? My wife seems to think I can get the copy from the same place we got married (if we need to get a new Kor Ror 2). Some people say you need it, others don't, unless that's just for the initial Non-O and not the extension?
  3. Do I need a witness? We don't know anyone here. Apparently we need a close friend or family to join us? We just arrived less than 3 months ago. It seems a bit silly.
  4. For the photos, do we need full-body shots? Obviously that would mean that a 'selfie' won't be accepted even if the house number etc is visible and clear?
  5. For the bank documents, do I need to get documents from the same-day, or is within 7 days acceptable?
  6. Our landlord has refused multiple times to provide signed ID card and House Registration. I do have a copy of the rental contract with their signatures and a photo they provided me (not signed though) of their house registration, but they refuse to provide anything more than this. I'm hoping they will accept the rental payment invoices and receipts along with the mentioned as proof of address.
  7. I know I should try to get there as early as possible, but given bank documents etc may be needed the same-day, that may be a challenge. Does the queue cut off at ~11am?
  8. Bonus question: 400k THB just sitting in a bank account seems like a waste. Is is possible to put it into an account that would earn some interest, or would that be too risky?

1- you need a fresh kor ror 2 each year

2- no idea what that is

3- witness needed

4- no selfie's

5- same day with book updated that day

6- you will need an updated tm30, and rental contract i believe, ( we don't rent, so not sure of rules for renters)

7- different offices different rules, what office you using

8- 400,000thb has to be in an account in your name only for 2 months prior to application, my account pays interest, i believe money has to be instantly available

good luck

This is the document stating one is single, supplied by one's embassy, needed to get married in Thailand @steve187.  Some offices ask for this in the hopes you won't have it, so they can avoid the 'hard work' of processing a marriage-based extension - usually only on the 1st extension.

I do not recall CW / Bangkok being reported to require this.  But, yes, you could get a copy from the amphoe where you got married if you needed it.

It is always best to apply as soon as you can, with time for a 2nd attempt if the 1st fails - 30 to 45 days in-advance of your current permitted-stay expiring (depending on the office).

Once your extension is approved, open a Fixed Term Deposit account and transfer the 400K.
These are acceptable to Immigration and give a better interest rate than Savings accounts.

Sent a PM.

Times are changing. Most probably the 400k will go to the tax department immediately after the approval of the extension.
