If you must use an enema make it a pre-made small one (Fleets or dimilar). High up enemas, soap suds etc not a good idea on a regular basis.

Have you tried glycerine suppositories?

Are you taking on opoid (would explain it).

How about using the stuff you take to get ready for a colonoscopy the next day? Called Colon-Prep or something like that.

Would using that for a complete flush out say every 3-4 months, or every 6 months, be beneficial?

I remember reading a post a long time ago that said colonics, which I believe is just a very thorough enema, can actually mess up your gut bacteria and kill off the good bacteria you need. I suppose using Colon-Prep would be like a colonic on steroids.

Is the purpose of anemas to relieve constipation? There are a few other strategies you might like to try:

- Up your intake of water / fluids. Dehydration is a big cause of constipation.

- Try Magnesium Citrate. This form of Magnesium helps to soften the stool. Again, you need to be consuming enough fluids.

- It goes against the grain but lowering fibre can help. Some people with dysbiosis (messed up bacteria in their gut) can struggle with much fibre. A lot of fibre can bung those with dysbiosis up.

- Viatmin C in high doses like 2000 mg up can help relieve constipation.

I hope this helps.

Here in Italy, my family doctor prescribed me Duphalac for my chroncic constipation despite my healthy diet rich in fiber and plenty of water.

When I am in Thailand and rarely get into trouble despite my daily dose of Duphalac, I use the bum gun to shoot up some water and this solves the problem.

It worked, a good dump is far more satifying than a poor screw. I use the tamarind fibre powder 'posh' brand, some 7'11 sell it. I s hit you not.

If increasing water intake doesn't work see a doctor.  For nonmedical remedy have the misses dig out the offenders with a spoon.  Never tried it but was told by a poor rural acquaintance years ago in the US that that's what his mother would do when the kids had severe constipation.

Digging about with a spoon can cause tears and bleeding. I have tried everything over the years, nothing works better than psyllium husk, or powers with it in. I did hear of a maths teacher who worked it out with a ruler 😀

I use PEG 3350 or 4000. One brand name is Macrogol.

It's a stool softener, not a laxative. Works 12 - 18 hours after consumption. Never fails me.

It is chemically inert in the digestive system, and passes through the body unchanged, without interacting with any medications or gut flora.

Its mode of action is to draw water from the colon into the stool, hence the softening action.

I think you should try to find the cause. Sometimes, you will find one, and some causes are even curable. Don’t be surprised—some causes are curable, but only within a certain period of time.

Isn't that where the multifunctional bumgun comes in handy ?

I don't want to go to the toilet when I'm not home , so I "help" to flush it out before I go out .

Just don't fart after or you may blow bubbles.

Suppositories are no longer sold by boots as they are said to wreck your bowels,

too many pills for constipation are not good for gut health,

so me folks like a beer enema but not me

I have tried prunes, bran, suppositories, etc. half a dragon fruit a day seems to be the best for me.

No. Would you drink the water that comes out of your spray device? Why then would you wish to introduce  that same water deep into your rectum and even the lower colon? The bacteria, viruses, fungi & mold spores, amoebas etc.  found in the water supply are just as infectious when introduced  by way of the rectum.  Any liquids administered should always be sterile and appropriately pH balanced.

One should not over worry bowel movements. If one is a light eater, has limited activity and has a slow metabolism, the excretions will reflect that.  One of the fastest ways to improve bowel output is to get active. Physical movement  helps the bowel movements.

Just get a small diameter nozzle bum gun, turn the pressure down and hose up for about 10 seconds max.

Hold.... hold..... HOLD!!!

And relax.

My bum gun uses the same filtered and UV-treated water that we shower, brush teeth, wash vegetables in, cook with and drink.

It's not about 'going deep' or colonic irrigation. It's about flushing the porch, not flooding the nave.

Once a week.

It's a clean feeling , knowing everything is flushed out.

The water is usually pretty clean here .
