Watch: George Santos Hit with Coffee in Times Square Amid Ongoing Controversy

A video circulating on social media shows former New York congressman George Santos being doused with a cup of coffee in Times Square, sparking widespread reactions online. The clip begins with an unnamed man, wearing sunglasses, speaking into the camera as he follows Santos, remarking, “This guy has got [the] audacity to show his face.” Moments later, the man confronts Santos, throws the drink at him, and asks, “How do you like that?” Santos responds angrily, shouting, “What the f*** is wrong with you?”

The incident, based on digital headlines visible in the background of the video, appears to have occurred in November. Despite Santos’ notoriety, the act of throwing the drink drew criticism from various quarters, even from his political opponents. One notable response came from *Republicans Against Trump*, a prominent account on X (formerly Twitter), which posted, “As much as we don’t like the guy, this is unacceptable. Stop assaulting people just because you disagree with them politically.”

The comment seemed to allude to a broader trend of violence, referencing the recent fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Thompson was allegedly gunned down outside a Manhattan hotel by Luigi Mangione, who had been an outspoken critic of the healthcare system. These incidents underscore rising tensions in public and political spaces.

Santos, who has been embroiled in scandals throughout his brief political career, became only the sixth member of Congress in U.S. history to be expelled from the House when he was removed in December 2023. His expulsion followed a series of accusations and criminal charges that culminated in him pleading guilty to aggravated identity theft and wire fraud in August. These charges included stealing credit card information for personal use and submitting false information to the Federal Election Commission. Prosecutors revealed that Santos had defrauded his victims of more than $300,000, which he has been ordered to repay.

Once seen as a rising star in the Republican Party, Santos faced intense scrutiny for fabricating much of his personal and professional background. His career unraveled as investigations uncovered a pattern of deceit and financial misconduct. His expulsion placed him in a small and infamous group of lawmakers removed from Congress, the other five being Confederates expelled during the Civil War.

The coffee-throwing incident is just the latest chapter in Santos’ tumultuous public life. While it has fueled conversations about political accountability and public conduct, it also highlights the dangers of escalating tensions in political discourse. Even those critical of Santos have called for restraint, emphasizing that disagreements should not devolve into personal assaults.

That’s two points I find myself in agreement with these particular Republicans.

USA will have more of these incidents starting in late January. The country's moral fiber has been ripped to shreds, from the top down.

LOL! Funny....I was just thinking the same just before I saw your comment! Yes! I wonder if he will be hired by Trump some how...in the Justice department ....??🤣

Why is that guy not in jail?

Totally unacceptable.

Just like milkshaking Farage was. Or egging Prescott. Just because you disagree with someone's politics doesn't give you the right to assault them.

Not a good reason to soaking him in coffee, but George Santos (a.k.a. Anthony Devolder, a.k.a. George Devolder, a.k.a. Anthony Zabrovsky, a.k.a. Delio da Camara da Costa Alemao) is not a politician: George Santos is a con man

He is the sixth member of the House to be expelled, the only Republican, and the only member expelled without first being convicted of a federal crime or having supported the Confederacy.

Even Trump may learn from him! 😀

It nothing about disagreeing politically........the piece of trash lied to the people who elected him and misused "their" funds.....the coffee-thrower was likely one of those voters so all the power to him!!

Santos is a scumbag and he was lucky it was only a coffee!!!

I think it had more to do with the fact that he ripped of people by stealing their credit card details and identities and he absolutely did deserve that! Sh.t like that can ruin people. He should be in prison for what he did!

Well, when it's about conmen, Trump is a convenient comparison standard.  😀

You should get some sleep old fella.

He deserved it but no need to go that low. He's already thoroughly disgraced. Throwing coffee on him only serves to inspire unearned sympathy for him.

Reminds me a bit of a teenaged prank I did with a buddy.

We would regularly be approached by scientologists trying to sell vulnerable people on their destructive cult. So as soon as they revealed themselves which usually took a few seconds, we would both scream loudly and start running -- OH NO SCIENTOLOGISTS! It was fun, they were shocked, and surrounding people were well warned, all without physical assault.
