I need to go back to my country to deal with a death in the family. I don't know exactly how long I'll need to be there so I got a 1 way ticket and I'll purchase the return ticket once I have a better idea of how long it'll take to get everything sorted out. Can you get a re-entry permit if you don't have a return flight?

Reentry Permit has zero to do with return flight.

Which airport are you exiting Thailand from.

Since urgent best to obtain reentry permit at airport on day of departure.

They also offer 200b service fee to take care of everything including photo for TM8

My wife was in the same boat earlier this month. The answer is yes, you can get a re-entry permit valid to the end date of your visa.

When you apply for the Re-Entry Permit, need to fill in (proposed)departure date from Thailand.

Just for others....the date you put is  just formality.

Do not need to have flight on that day.

The reentry permit can be used from date of issue to expiry of current permission of stay..

Jakob, I’m sorry for the circumstances surrounding your need to ask this question but the answer, as you will have seen by other contributors is YES.

However, one still has to appreciate that the RE-ENTRY permit has an expiry date perhaps linked to your Immigration Visa and it’s extension, so just be aware of this if you are, for any reason, contemplating a lengthy stay in your country.

The expiry date on reentry permit will  be  same as expiry of current permission of stay stamp.

Yes the dates for your flights and even where you are going are never checked when you apply for a reentry permit.

Actually, there have been changes to the re-entry permit application at Suvarnabhumi. You now apply just after passport control. There are signs that direct you to the desk which you reach by turning left and walking to the end. The process is otherwise pretty much unchanged. As before, you can use your own completed form and photo, or you can pay 200 baht to have that dealt with for you.

Is this when you do not enter visa Zone 2.

Some folk using fast track lane (not available zone 2) turn left after passport control and walk to Zone 2.

Where is the "new desk/office" for reentry permit

Don't worry.

The Thais have already figured out when you want to re-entry Thailand you will have already purchased a return flight, got on that flight ✈️ and show up to Immigration to get your entry stamp.

That's what a Reentry permit is for...

Reentry.

Hope this helps. 🫡

Also, upon your return, it helps to mention that you have a reentry stamp so the immigration officer notices it. At least I was thanked for mentioning it the last time I reentered.

sorry, but where did you see the word urgent in the OP?

From the OP...

"I need to go back to my country to deal with a death in the family"

The OP clearly looking to avoid time at local immigration hence asking about TM8 at airport.

Please in threads direct advice to OP with helpful advice.
