Gulf of America.
Personally, I am against all this name changing of various geographical locations, including the renaming of 9 U.S. military bases. We have an Hawaiian activist in the Hawaii legislature that wants to change the small town of Capt. Cook to a Hawaiian name. None of this BS is going to change history. Good or bad, it is what it is. Changing Burma to Myanmar has not benefited the country, and so on. -

Trump asks Supreme Court to halt sentencing in New York hush money case
WASHINGTON/NEW YORK Jan 8 (Reuters) - President-elect Donald Trump has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to prevent a New York state court from sentencing him for his conviction on criminal charges stemming from hush money paid to a porn star. "This court should enter an immediate stay of further proceedings in the New York trial court to prevent grave injustice and harm to the institution of the presidency and the operations of the federal government," his lawyers wrote in a filing made public on Wednesday. On Tuesday, a New York appeals court denied his effort to halt sentencing scheduled for Friday in New York state court in Manhattan. In Wednesday's filing, his lawyers asked the U.S. Supreme Court to immediately order a stay in the case, as he seeks an appeal to resolve questions of presidential immunity. They said they had simultaneously asked the state's highest court for the same emergency relief. https://www.reuters.com/legal/trump-asks-us-supreme-court-pause-new-york-hush-money-case-2025-01-08/ -

Undercover Informant Gunned Down in Krabi in Suspected Drug Revenge Attack
Picture from responders. An undercover informant working for law enforcement was shot dead in a brutal attack on the night of January 7, in a suspected act of retaliation by a drug network. The victim, identified as Mr. Kolawit, 25, was ambushed and killed along a roadside in Moo 8, Phla Subdistrict, Khlong Thom District. Authorities reported that the attackers used a military-grade firearm to carry out the assault, shooting the victim at close range. Police recovered 16 bullet casings and two bullets at the scene, a road through a rubber plantation. At approximately noon on January 8, Krabi law enforcement officials, including Pol. Col. Pisanu Achchanapornkul and Pol. Col. Chavalit Phetsripia, conducted a thorough inspection of the crime scene. Evidence suggested that the victim may have been lured to the location via a phone call. Investigators believe Mr. Kolawit stopped his motorbike at the site, as indicated by a cigarette butt found near his body. The investigation revealed that the victim had earlier visited a makeshift shelter in a rubber plantation approximately 500 metres away from the site of the shooting. No additional evidence was discovered at that location. Preliminary police findings suggest the attackers were members of a drug network seeking revenge against the victim for his role as an informant. Officers are now reviewing CCTV footage from near the area to track the suspects and bring them to justice. Mrs. Surin Sutthikerd, the assistant village head of Moo 8, recounted hearing gunfire from her nearby home around 22:00. Her son alerted her after hearing a rapid succession of shots from the plantation. "I heard more than ten gunshots in quick succession. When I arrived at the scene, I found him already dead," she said. Mrs. Surin described the victim as someone not particularly law- abiding, with a history of possible involvement in illegal activities, though he was not known to have conflicts with others in the village. The police investigation is ongoing as authorities work to apprehend those responsible for this violent crime. -- 2025-01-09 -

Who got bored in Thailand and went back?
The pollution and over tourism is certainly making me thinking of going back. This country essentially has open borders at the moment. Seeing crime on the rise too, with alot of anti social behaviour - mainly from tourists.
