Trump and Obama: A Surprising Note of Camaraderie

In an unexpected acknowledgment, former President Donald Trump suggested that he and former President Barack Obama “probably do” like each other. The remark came during a brief exchange with a reporter on Thursday, prompted by a viral video of the two leaders chatting amicably during President Jimmy Carter's funeral.

“I didn’t realize how friendly it looked,” Trump remarked from his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida. Reflecting on the footage, he added, “I said, ‘Boy, they look like two people that like each other.’ And we probably do. We have a little different philosophies, right? But we probably do. I don’t know. We just got along. But I got along with just about everybody.”

"Kamala Harris looks back at Trump, who is talking with Obama."

The moment stood out against the backdrop of years of political rivalry between the two former presidents. Trump and Obama have frequently criticized each other publicly, with Trump once leading the unfounded "birther" conspiracy, which falsely questioned Obama’s birthplace. However, there have been moments of unusual praise from Trump toward his predecessor. In August, Trump described Obama as “a nice gentleman” in a CNN interview, adding that he respects the Obamas.

An adviser to Obama did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the interaction or Trump’s statements.

The relationship between the two has occasionally displayed signs of cordiality. After Trump’s 2016 election victory, Obama invited him to the White House for a meeting, which both leaders described in positive terms. Obama called it an “excellent” and “wide-ranging” conversation, while Trump expressed gratitude, saying, “It was a great honor being with you.”

Though their political ideologies and leadership styles remain markedly different, moments like these highlight a more personal dimension to the relationship between two figures often perceived as unrelenting adversaries. Whether fleeting or sincere, such interactions hint at the complex dynamics underlying their public personas.

Melania and Harris look like the sour ones here

At least they can have an intelligent conversation together whereas Poor Joe is lost in space. I think there will be some interesting books detailing how government has actually been run during the past 4 years.

Notice how celebrites,  heads of companies and fellow politicians are all befriending Trump after he won the popular peoples vote.

Shamless U turns in many cases the way they cursed Trump and applauded the many court actions against him pre election.

Read the full report / watch the video, it's not as you and others portray.

Maybe an overnight miracle happened and Trump grew a nanogram of dignity and humanity?

If a day goes by that Trump is now spewing hatred, it is a good day.

I certainly hope this is not true. I will add anyone who has any positive thoughts about Trump to my 'WTF?' list.

Zuckerberg, Bezos and now Obama. It's only a matter of time before we see a news report of @Jingthing bending the knee to Trump.

Tiny Mushroom Dong Trump probably told Obama his Arnold Palmer penis joke because he knows Obama is a real man, too just like Palmer. 🍆

Not really. Trump was so desperate to talk to someone after being snubbed by almost everyone else. Obama clearly didn't want to engage but was too polite not to. Interesting that the official Carter Centre photo was taken from such an angle that it excluded Trump completely. I loved the way Biden looked in Trump's direction every time he mentioned honesty, character and integrity. Kudos to Michelle Obama for being elsewhere as she was originally detailed to sit next to Trump.

True.

But the only time Melanie Knauss gives a genuine smile is when she was looking into Justin Trudeau's eyes.

Harris is a cop and when she smiles she looks like the prosecutor after the perp gets sentenced to life.

I warned Democrats that Harris wasn't popular --thats why she lost to a doddering old man in the 2020 primary. 😄

I doubt it’s true the adults in the room didn’t want to trigger one of trumps (episodes)so they played along to flatter the old narcissist.im sure they despise him.

Very telling that while Trump was near invisible despite being under the noses of many of attendees Melania may as well have stayed home!

Where does it say anything about it being intelligent?

Obama knows who he is talking to, it was probably a fart joke.  After all the bs that DT has talked regarding Obama and his family Obama's ability to laugh with this blackguard shows he has an ability DT does not: he can get past trash talk.

Biden's eulogy was just fine and he wasn't lost

Gee, why wasn't former President Trump asked to say a few words? Perhaps because he is a maundering hateful liar of the first order?

Nice points however:

1. I rather doubt trump being all that civil with Obama.

2. Trump should have had much more respect for the occasion / the reason why they were there , the funeral of a past president, regardless of what party carter belonged to.

My guess is that when the seating was being planned there was some consternation about who would sit text to the toxic orange guy.  I could even imagine a minor spat between the Obamas and the former president threatened his wife to "sit her azz next to DT."

On the other hand Carter's ancestors were slaveholders (that's why so many Black folks in the US are named Carter) and maybe that had something to do with Michelle's absence.  If you look hard enough there is a clip from SNL where Ray Charles is the guest, and he introduces the song "Georgia On My Mind" with a dedication to the president (this while Carter was in the WH) because "his great grandad owned my great grandad."

On the other hand there is a saying in the US Black community that "sometimes the sh_t comes down so hard you just have to laugh."  Or Obama was laughing at DT, not with him -- big diff.  Maybe Obama was the only one chill enough to handle DT, if only for funeral, and he volunteered.

Obama wasn't laughing with the convict.

I'd like to think DT was fishing for an approval from President O and he brought up Greenland.
