An incident occurred in the fields of Khao Hin Dang, a rural area in Chachoengsao province, when a wild elephant attacked and killed a local man. The victim, Mr. Rin, from Khao Hin Son Subdistrict in the neighbouring Phanom Sarakham District, was found lifeless in a cassava plantation near Wat Khao Hin Dang, after a violent encounter with the elephant.

At approximately 12:30 on January 20, local authorities were alerted to the incident. Police from the Sanam Chai Khet Police Station, along with the village chief of Khao Hin Dang Subdistrict, Mr. Sapthaveekulsari, arrived at the scene to investigate.

According to reports, Mr. Rin had been setting traps for rats in the plantation, likely to use them for food, when he unexpectedly encountered the wild elephant, which had been hiding in the underbrush. The elephant charged, attacking him with deadly force. The victim was crushed and died at the scene.

Rescue teams from Phanom Subdistrict and Thung Phaya District were called to recover the body, and it was transported to Sanam Chai Khet Hospital for an autopsy.

This tragic event highlights the ongoing dangers posed by wild elephants in the region, particularly when their natural habitats are encroached upon by agricultural activities.
