There is a saying that may be relevant: "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth "

I'm sure the Thai government feels the same way, and farang are the gift that just keeps giving.

So it's a two way street at times. I can live with that.

There are structures and there are structures. There are ones that where you could still transfer money in and not be taxed.

Anyway, I saw the following comment posted today on an Integrity Legal YouTube video. It's anecdotal, but I don't doubt that it is valid too:

A mate of mine went to tax office here in Thailand. Asked for tax ID and explained he is remitting funds from abroad and retired here. He mentioned the dual tax agreement with Thailand and his country and he had documents to provide. He was basically told to go away and he didn't need to lodge for a tax ID. He tried to argue that he thought he needed to lodge a tax return. They told him it wasn't needed. So, here is the quandary. I have heard of several other expats a experiencing the same issue.

Yes, as I have posted, there will be chaos.

There will be members who know they have to pay some tax, but their local TRD Office will refuse to allow them to file.  Perhaps if they went to another TRD Office, they would be allowed to do so.

I'm sure such members will be very happy if down the track they are fined 2000 baht for not filing.

Seems like a credible source.  Did he put it in writing for you, so you can show immigration?

We are getting silly here now.

It's not smart, and your poor attempt at sarcasm isn't wasted on me, I am quick on the uptake.

Why do you insist on continuing down this path with me?

We view it differently. THAT'S IT, STOP BEING A BLOODY TROLL.

You won't change the way I see it.

So what do you suggest? Moving address to another TRD jurisdiction that will accept you to file in order to pay tax? Sue the ignorant local TRD office because they don't allow you to file?... Any other smart-ass idea?

Well, what I don't suggest is to do NOTHING and be content with the incorrect information given by a low level TRD staff member.

An agent will be handling my tax affairs in Thailand.

Other members will have to decide for themselves what's best for them.

In my opinion, doing nothing may have some serious consequences at a later stage.

I have never had the intention of changing the way you see it.

I am just asking you if you think the Thai's will see it the same way as you do, after all, it is their country, it is their laws, and it's your money they want, and you have no right to live in Thailand?  Not a great position to be in, is it?

Ok.  Can you briefly state which "stuff?"

I agree.

It has not been in the news.  There have been no announcements from government about it.

That's said, do you think you should at least give the possibility some consideration?

You have to admit, it's the easiest, cheapest, and most effective way to force expats into a TRD Office.

More like a prediction, actually.

You are the one that posted how Thailand often reverses policies.  No argument from me, but not usually when money is involved.

However, you don't comment on how often Thailand creates new policies.

If the lack of expats filing, or the amount of revenue they receive from expats does not meet their expectations, do you think it's possible they will make a TRD certificate a required document at extension time?

Yes, I know there is no requirement now, but what about in the future, and I mean the near future?

🤓🙄and on and on he goes!

Silly bugger.
