Tour Bus Collides with Six-Wheel Rubber Truck in Satun: Four Injured

A tour bus carrying 46 passengers collided with a six-wheel truck transporting rubber at a traffic light junction on the Satun–Che Bilang road on 24 January. The crash, reportedly caused by a GPS error leading to a sudden U-turn, left four people injured and passengers screaming in panic.

 

The collision occurred at a red-light junction on the Satun–Che Bilang road. Police and rescue teams from Mueang Satun Police Station rushed to the scene upon receiving the emergency call.

 

At the site, a tour bus with registration number from Phitsanulok was found with its left front tyre blown out and shattered windows along its side. Nearby, a six-wheel truck carrying liquid rubber was severely damaged at the front.

 

According to Police Colonel Seksit Prakotnue, Chief of Mueang Satun Police Station, the tour bus, driven by 53-year-old Mr. Preecha Seesod, was travelling from Langkawi Island towards La-ngu District when the GPS navigation system directed it off course. In an attempt to make a sudden U-turn at the junction, the bus was struck by the oncoming truck.

 

The six-wheel truck, driven by 44-year-old Mr. Somsak Tehsahoh, was fully loaded with liquid rubber. The weight of the cargo reportedly made it difficult to brake or manoeuvre quickly. Mr. Somsak suffered severe injuries, including chest injuries, a fractured right ankle, a broken shin bone, and lacerations on his legs. Rescue workers used hydraulic equipment to free him from the wreckage before transporting him to Satun Hospital for emergency treatment.

 

Three tourists from the bus also sustained injuries and were taken to Satun Hospital for medical care.

 

Mr. Sitthichai Leelanon, village chief of Khuan Pho Subdistrict, stated that the truck’s full load likely contributed to delayed braking and stability issues. He also noted that the crash occurred at a busy junction, and the bus’s abrupt U-turn made the collision unavoidable.

 

Police are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact circumstances leading to the accident. Legal proceedings will follow based on the findings.

 

The incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers of relying solely on GPS navigation systems and highlights the importance of caution when navigating unfamiliar routes.

 

Passengers on the bus, who were en route to a tourist destination, expressed their relief that the injuries sustained were not more severe.

Thats the rubber truck. GPS says turn so you turn without looking if safe.

If the collision was "unavoidable" then it is irrelevant to discuss the effect on the brakes of a fully loaded truck.
