A Russian commander has publicly urged Vladimir Putin to put an end to the war in Ukraine, which has now dragged on for over three years.

The commander, reportedly serving in a unit near the city of Sudzha in Russia’s Kursk region, has now broken ranks by calling on the Kremlin to halt hostilities.

In a recent interview with prominent war blogger Maxim Kalashnikov, the commander was asked what he would do to win the war in Ukraine. His response was blunt: "I would stop the war altogether.''

Users on platforms like Guancha labelled Russia a “weak empire” and called its military outdated.

One commenter jeered, “They only care about food,” while another joked about reclaiming land lost to Russia in the 19th century.

Some users invoked the Treaty of Aigun (1858), which saw Russia seize massive territory from China, including Vladivostok. “We’ll be ready to take back what’s ours,” one comment read ominously.

Explosions were reported near Bryansk Airport overnight on June 6, with preliminary reports suggesting that Ukrainian forces targeted and destroyed several Russian missile systems ahead of a planned strike on Ukraine.

According to early accounts circulating on social media, the targets may have included Iskander missile launchers, a stockpile of Iskander missiles, a transport aircraft delivering additional munitions, and other military assets stationed at the airport.

Analysts suggest the attack may have disrupted an imminent Russian missile strike.
