Toxic Smog Disrupts Bangkok Flights as PM2.5 Levels Soar

Bangkok’s toxic air pollution has reached hazardous levels, forcing flight diversions and triggering health warnings. On February 2, thick smog reduced visibility to 150 meters, diverting flights from Don Mueang Airport. PM2.5 levels hit 64.7 µg/m³, nearly double the safe limit. Authorities blame traffic, industry, and crop burning for worsening conditions, with stagnant air trapping pollutants. In response, the Bangkok government urged mask use, remote work, and free public transport. Critics argue more long-term solutions, like promoting EVs and stricter regulations, are needed to combat Thailand’s annual pollution crisis.

I personally think the crop burning problem is worse than the traffic emissions one. Not much traffic in Petchabun but lots of burning and it is very visable most days.

I took the wife and sister in law up into the hills recently to admire the sunflower fields.  They were pleased to see what they took for low flying cloud ' Mog ' . I had to tell them it was haze pollution from crop burning as far as we could see. Not all local but blown everywhere from far away.

If everyone was driving an EV tomorrow there would still be haze because old habits die hard as the penalties for burning are too light.

Law enforcement ????? What's that ?
