The "Drillers" in the US need 50$ per barrel. The Saudi's have painted themselves into a corner.  They have kicked off costly mega projects. Just to keep going they need prices above 90$. Donalds 45$ goal not likely.

Alternatively, instead of "drill baby drill" the US should go by "swill baby swill". That way at least Johnnie Walker and the beer breweries would profit and the price of "booze" would be lower, longer term.

It baffles me why Venezuala has the world's richest oil deposits, and also has a government so corrupt and incompetent it cannot utilize them properly. 5 million Venezualans have left the country.

 

The CIA has previous form in Chile, perhaps Trump should put them to work in Venezuala.

 

Cheaper oil, and less economic refugees. Win win. Beats trying to take over the territory of a NATO ally.

Canada is catching the "drill baby drill" fever too, suddenly. Trudeau is pretending to be afraid of an American takeover, and is suddenly advocating new pipelines, new drilling, even more nuclear power.  Obviously trying to make our next election about Trump instead of about himself.  

It is a good idea really. Would you rather buy oil from democratic countries, or the head hackers in the Middle East? LNG from Russia or from Canada?  Oil isn't going away any time in the near future.

I'm not sure that the people who actually drill for oil or natural gas would agree with you. But as for Trudeau playing politics, first of all he's not running. And secondly, Canadians overwhelmingly don't trust the US anymore.
