Educational Materials

Featured Replies

Hi folks, I sincerely apologize if this has been brought up before.

I'm looking to buy some educational materials somewhere in Bangkok. I'm specifically looking for posters of an English Literature bent. I'm teaching Language Arts and Literature at an international school and I really don't have anything with which to decorate my classroom. I've spoken to some of the other teachers there, but they all seem to have brought stuff from home and/or inherited it from previous teachers at the school.

Does anyone have any leads on this?

Thanks kindly,

BFD!

There's a DK bookstore around somewhere; the university bookstores are also good (especially both branches of the Chula bookstore, the one on campus and the one in the same building as the British Council in Siam). You could also check out the various Kinokuniyas (Emporium, Paragon, World Trade Center). There are official government supply stores for schools (Suksapan), for example near National Stadium and Ekkamai on the BTS, but their materials will be mainly in Thai.

DK Books have 4 E L T Centers that sell English language teaching books and materials. There’s the Language Media Book Center in Siam Square located behind the Lido Theater. There’s a new one on RCA. There’s one in Pratunam. You turn left off Rajaprarop 100 meters past the Makasan level rail crossing. And, there’s another on Muang Thong Thani Road.

If I may suggest BFD, get the students to decorate the room based on this terms reading list or material they’ve previously covered. Great group, pair, or individual project that could generate a lot of authentic language. Thais are very aesthetical and resourceful people. This could result in authentic written and speaking tasks. They can create posters, memorabilia or props from the readings.

I've always wanted to know exactly where this DK books is. Can anyone give directions?

Oxford Books, over at Muang Than Thani (Rangsit area).
