Pick-up Truck Crosses Lane Crosses Central Divide Crashes into Bus, Leaving 27 Injured

A serious road crssh involving a pick-up truck and a public bus has left 27 people injured, four of them critically, in Warin Chamrap district, Ubon Ratchathani.

 

The incident occurred at approximately 14:15 on 7 March, near a well-known barbecue restaurant, close to Ubon Ratchathani University, on the Warin-Det Udom Road. Police and emergency services rushed to the scene after receiving reports of the crash.

 

According to initial investigations, a white Isuzu pick-up truck attempted to overtake another vehicle at high speed but the driver lost control, colliding with the central reservation before careering over it and into an oncoming public bus operating on the Ubon-Det Udom-Na Chaluai route. 

 

The crash caused the pick-up truck to rebound into a second pick-up, a black Isuzu, which was travelling in the same direction as the bus. The impact also caused the bus to to bounce over the central reservation, coming to rest with the front of the bus on the opposite carriageway.

 

Emergency response teams, including Ubon Ratchathani University’s medical rescue unit and various local rescue squads, arrived swiftly. The accident was classified as a mass casualty event, with 27 people sustaining injuries.

 

• Four individuals suffered critical injuries and were rushed to Warin Chamrap Hospital and Ubon Ratchathani University Hospital.

 

• Six people sustained moderate injuries and were taken to Warin Chamrap Hospital, Ubon Ratchathani University Hospital, and Sapphasitthiprasong Camp Hospital.

 

• Seventeen others, with minor injuries, were transported to multiple hospitals in the area.

Rescue workers used hydraulic cutting tools to free a person trapped inside the wreckage, who had to be removed through a window on a spinal board. The swift response by emergency teams ensured that all casualties received medical attention as quickly as possible.

 

Authorities continue to investigate the exact cause of the crash and are expected to question the drivers involved.

I thought the central reservation stops vehicles crossing into oncoming traffic ?
