I’ve been eating 60 to 90 grams of 72% percent chocolate per day on average for over 10 years. Love the stuff. Not sure it’s had any real effect on me physically, other than adding a little to my midsection. It’s incredibly calorically dense.

 

But what really stings now is the cost. Prices just keep climbing because of the declining cocoa supply from West Africa. If you look into it, you’ll see that cocoa production has been struggling due to shifting weather patterns and climate change, things like too much rain, not enough rain, unpredictable conditions. Both Ivory Coast's and Ghana’s output have been hit hard.

 

The European brand I normally buy just jumped up another 25 percent in price about a month ago. No idea where it’ll end, but over the last seven years, the price of the same chocolate I’ve been eating has more than doubled in total.
