Picture from responders.

Authorities were left red-faced after a dramatic emergency response to what was believed to be a grisly crime scene, only to discover that the “victims” were nothing more than discarded mannequins.

The commotion began when a concerned resident called the police, reporting the shocking sight of a naked man and woman’s bodies lying next to a quiet road, in a rubbish heap near Khao Makok Soi 13, Nong Prue, on the night of 18 March, at 23:00.

Emergency responders, fearing the worst, rushed to the scene with Huai Yai Police Station and volunteers from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation, all attending the incident.

Expecting to uncover a tragic scene, officers instead found two abandoned shop mannequins locked in an intimate embrace. The eerie sight, seemingly straight out of a crime drama, turned into an embarrassing, yet hilarious, false alarm.

Locals and social media users quickly saw the funny side, with comments flooding in about the “lovers” who had seemingly been left to “rest” in the undergrowth. Some joked that the mannequins had simply “run away from the shop” for a romantic getaway, while others praised the lifelike quality of the figures that had managed to fool.

With no crime to investigate and nothing more than a case of misplaced mannequins, officers packed up and left, no doubt relieved that their “victims” were made of plastic rather than flesh and bone.

Saharath, a rescue volunteer stated “I do not blame the person who reported the sighting. If I had driven past and seen them in that position, I would have thought the same,”

Pattaya is no stranger to bizarre news, but this mannequin mystery might just be one of the most entertaining twists so far this year.

I guess the police will have a couple new toys to play with, or 2 new staff members 🤣😂
