Hungry American Nabbed After Robbing Donation Box in Pattaya

A 62-year-old American man named John was arrested in the early hours of April 2 for breaking into a donation box outside a Pattaya police station. Claiming hunger after losing his ATM card, he used a stone to force open the box belonging to the Father Ray Foundation, stuffing cash and coins into his wallet. Police caught him in the act and have initiated legal proceedings. While his desperation may evoke sympathy, the theft from a charitable cause shocked locals and tourists alike, underscoring the serious consequences of such actions.

So now, the "Hungry American" can eat roaches in a Thai jail or prison. Again, the punishment here will never fit the crime. Hunger or insanity is never an excuse under Thai law.

I remember me and a friend ran out of money once at uni because we didn't realize it was a long weekend, and in those days, they shut the banks and ATMs on weekends and bank holidays (going back a long time). We were starving.

My friend was a charity volunteer, so we went around places where he had put cash collection boxes and officially told the proprietors that we were gathering the collections to forward to the respective charities. Emptying the boxes, we counted every coin and made a note. Bought food. When the banks opened, we withdrew the money owed and paid back every penny.

Not to be encouraged, but hunger can make people desperate.
