The frantic search-and-rescue mission at the collapsed Bangkok State Audit Office building has tragically seen its death toll climb to 22, while 72 remain unaccounted for.

Following the catastrophic building collapse during the Myanmar earthquake on March 28, a robust operation armed with heavy machinery presses on in the Chatuchak district.

It's day 13 of the daunting rescue efforts, characterised by a vigorous blend of manpower and machinery. An array of equipment, including 21 machines plus a newly arrived 120-tonne backhoe, is in full swing.

With the recent inclusion of a crane capable of moving 1,000 tonnes of debris, operations are anticipated to pick up pace. The vast pile of rubble – towering 7 to 8 metres – sees search teams in constant motion, unearthing remnants in strategic Zones A through E.

Canadian rescue units rejoin the front line, accompanied by local paratrooper police and disaster management units, who bravely scale the debris. Their tenacity focuses on clearing the mountainous heaps made by overnight machinery operations.

Boosting this collaborative effort, Bangkok’s governor, Chadchart Sittipunt, stands resolute at the site, supporting the workforce and stressing swift action as pivotal.

The Royal Thai Police confirm the receipt of 22 bodies by the Institute of Forensic Medicine, with 18 successfully identified, providing a glimmer of closure for families already in mourning.

Priority now remains on clearing the mass of rubble obstructing search efforts, igniting hope of locating survivors amidst the ruins. As operations edge closer to crucial areas, the increased momentum signifies an uncompromising drive to rescue those still trapped beneath the debris.

Hats off to these search and rescue guys....they're doing a fantastic job in an extremely dangerous and grisly site.

I hope they get rewarded and appreciated properly for their work!

Ditto, must be hot and very dangerous...

Note all the suits have gone?
