On the festival's final day, April 15th, a video surfaced showing a transgender woman dancing topless at the bustling Tek Ha intersection, sparking widespread online criticism for allegedly damaging the country's cultural image. Songkran, known for water fights and joyous celebrations, is a time when locals and tourists alike fill the streets, often dancing and engaging in revelry. This year, celebrations included vibrant gatherings, with individuals dancing on pickup trucks and setting up impromptu sound systems to entertain the masses. However, the festive atmosphere turned controversial when a Facebook post from กลุ่มข่าวคนโคราชบ้านเอ็ง showcased the woman disrobing, surrounded by a group of men. The video's viral spread prompted concerns and debates across social media platforms. Critics argue that this behaviour during a cultural festival detracts from Thailand's rich heritage. Many voiced their discontent, emphasising that respect for traditional values should be maintained even in celebration. This incident has reignited discussions about balancing modern expressions and cultural preservation within Thailand's festive scenes, reported The Thaiger. -- 2025-04-16 1 2 23

Popular Post ikke1959 Posted April 16 Popular Post Posted April 16 The cultureral image of Thailand is that it is the sex capital of the world... So why worried if someone is dancing topless as it is a part of the culture. Even the traditional dress is topless in former times 3 11 1 1

It´s a country! Bangkok might be, but smaller cities like Pattaya beats it by far. Also, that is not the cultural image of the country, as it belongs to the entertainment industry. Cultural heritage is a totally different thing. 5

Popular Post spidermike007 Posted April 17 Popular Post Posted April 17 Every once in awhile an incident happens that compels people to debate the moral fabric of Thai Society and there always ends up being an element of fake purity to the whole dialogue. Instead, they should be focusing their efforts on traffic and public safety, easing import tariffs, making visa policy simpler, and more friendly, boosting Western tourism (of that is even possible at this late stage, after spending ten years sabotaging the industry), real crackdowns on slavery, illegal fishing (instead of nonsensical hyperbole), and police corruption, cleaning up the water, the air, the rivers, and the beaches, and other things that actually improve lives. 2 7 1

No, that's 2 pairs of shoes. Culture is one issue, road safety another. Can't be mixed. Foreigners are to respect Thai culture and customs, rules and history. 1

Popular Post Gecko123 Posted April 17 Popular Post Posted April 17 Interesting legal question. If it is argued that there are only two sexes: male or female, and a male who has transitioned to a female is still considered a male, which public decency standards for baring one's breasts would apply to a man who has transitioned to a woman? The standard for a man or for a woman? 2 2 1
