Anyone growing these, or has grown them?

Will they grow in this climate?

A health advisor going around the villages (Buriram) was handing these out a few years ago. I have no idea what they are supposed to be good for, but we do get a small crop off one plant, and for the first time in my life, I saw them blooming. I've also seen them in a schoolhouse garden.
