Accident Factory Worker Killed in Motorcycle Crash After Barbecue Date

A road crash claimed the life of a 38-year-old factory worker in the early hours the morning of 24 April, when his motorcycle collided with the rear of a stationary 18-wheeler lorry on Highway 331 in the Khao Mai Kaew area of Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province. The incident occurred as he was returning from a barbecue dinner dare with his girlfriend, who was also injured in the crash.

 

Rescue volunteers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation in Pattaya were alerted to the collision and rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, they found a damaged Honda Wave 110i motorcycle, white and blue in colour, registration from Rayong, which had struck the rear of a white Hino S700 lorry, which had been parked at the roadside.

 

 

The lorry, loaded with concrete blocks, had broken down and was stationary at the time of the incident. Its driver, Mr Phisit Sotakhamsaen, 45, told police he had been attempting repairs and had removed the vehicle’s battery, resulting in the emergency lights being disabled. He noted the location was poorly lit and that he heard a loud crash before discovering the motorcycle and its riders thrown across the road.

 

Mr Chatchasak Saweko, 38, the motorcycle rider, was pronounced dead at the scene, having fatal head trauma. His passenger, Ms Yuwalee Hommak, 24, sustained abrasions and complained of pain in her left shoulder. Rescue personnel administered first aid before transferring her to hospital for further treatment.

 

Police Lieutenant Polsan Khanchalee, Deputy Inspector of Investigation at Huai Yai Police Station, conducted an initial on-site investigation and documented the scene. The deceased was later transported to Bang Lamung Hospital, where authorities await contact from his family to claim the body for religious funeral rites.

 

Authorities continue to investigate the incident, including the positioning of the lorry and the lack of emergency warning signals and will take legal proceedings on the outcome.
