Agree. He reminds me of Tony Abbott who also misread the Australian people

Abbott was a British quisling, did not get to Australia until he was 13.

Still hanging around London, hoping for a knighthood. Unemployable.

Knighting Prince Philip made Australians realize he was an idiot.

That is a large herd of dead horses you are flogging there...

As for the topic at hand, I can only answer for what happened in Canada. The media really overplayed the so-called "Trump threat". People foolishly fell for it, and forgot the results of the previous 10 years of Liberal mismanagement of the economy.  Now, the Conservatives also screwed the pooch. Their campaign was caught flat footed when the PM was forced to resign.

I am curious what the demographic spread of the vote will be in Oz. In Canada, the biggest groups to prop up the Liberals were Boomers, government workers, and the upper middle class. The conservative vote was younger, less affluent, and more male.

They're all on his CV, and will remain so forever, so I don't know about dead horses.

Regarding Canada I know very little, but as you seem to have favored Poilievre surely you must have some ill feelings towards Trump? Because without his idiotic blabbering about Canada becoming the 51st state you would have a conservative government by now.

You are 100% correct.

I like what the Bad Orange Man is doing for the States, but I was cringing every time he opened his mouth about my country. I was screaming "STFU" in my head.  It was a funny joke (Governor Trudeau) the first time. After that..... if just fed into the media narrative that was already present.  It was the number one motivating factor for 60 year old plus voters.

Opportunity lost.

I am now hoping that pragmatic Carney is the guy we actually elected. 2008 Carney, not 2020 Carney. Time will tell. I just have to pray that he does a good job and wish him well.

It's certainly going to be "interesting" for him, and I think with the current political situation he's either gonna emerge at the other end as a Canadian Churchill or a total dud.

Didn't Abbott get a role with HMG for "boat people" strategy. Think I may be correct he's the one who came up with Rwanda - lol

You may be right. The Brits are welcome to him.
