Accident Man Killed After Being Hit by Train in Khon Kaen

A incident occurred in the early hours of morning of 18 May, when a special express train travelling from Bangkok Apiwat to Nong Khai struck and killed an unidentified man who was lying across the railway tracks in Nam Phong district, Khon Kaen. The incident took place at approximately 04:50 near kilometre marker 488/7, between Nam Phong and Huai Siew stations. Authorities from Nam Phong Police Station, rescue workers, and medical personnel were dispatched to the scene following a report of a fatal train collision. Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered the dismembered body of a man believed to be between 50 and 60 years old. His body had been severed in two, with his limbs and skull severely crushed. Blood and brain matter were found on the front of the train, and rescue workers collected body parts scattered along the tracks before transferring the remains to Nam Phong Hospital for further examination. According to Pol Lt Col Thaworn Laophaeng, Deputy Inspector at Nam Phong Police Station, the train driver reported seeing a man lying motionless on the tracks. Despite sounding the horn repeatedly in an attempt to alert him, the man remained in place. The train, which had accelerated to climb an incline, was unable to brake in time, resulting in the fatal impact. No identification documents were found on the deceased, and as of this report, no missing person reports matching the victim’s description have been filed with the local police. Residents living near the tracks stated that the man had been seen wandering near the railway line in the days leading up to the incident. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the man’s identity and to notify any next of kin so that appropriate religious rites may be carried out.
