In a shocking and tragic event that unfolded in the serene surroundings of Nonthaburi province near Bangkok, the body of a 48-year-old Thai security guard named Charnchai was discovered in his dormitory room on the evening of June 5th. This unsettling discovery was prompted by an increasingly noticeable foul odour that concerned dormitory residents had been attempting to trace for several days.

The alert was raised by Chaiwat, a 41-year-old neighbour of the deceased, who, alongside fellow apartment occupants, managed to track the pungent smell to Charnchai's room. Alarmed, they contacted officers from the Bang Srimueang Police Station and emergency responders from the Por Teck Tung Foundation to investigate further. Upon forcibly entering the room after receiving no response, they were met with the tragic sight of Charnchai’s lifeless body.

Inside the room, Charnchai was found naked on his bed, an e-cigarette clasped in his right hand. Stay behind were the paraphernalia commonly associated with crystal meth use, constructed creatively from a plastic bottle. While no drugs were present at the scene, the materials alluded to a recent history of drug usage in the room.

Rescue workers and investigators on the scene speculated that Charnchai's death could be attributed to electrocution. His body was found alarmingly close to a plug socket connected to multiple electrical wires—a common but potentially hazardous arrangement in such accommodations. It is suspected that he might have been attempting to charge his e-cigarette, a routine task that may have turned deadly.

Chaiwat, speaking with Channel 8, shed some light on Charnchai’s background, stating that he worked as a security guard at a high school directly opposite the dormitory. Interestingly, Charnchai had only been in his current accommodation for a brief period, having moved in approximately three to four days prior to his untimely death. His room was part of a recent renovation project, adding a layer of immediacy and irony to the sequence of events.

As part of the investigation, police reviewed Charnchai’s medical history. It was discovered that he had been undergoing treatment for tuberculosis, and was prescribed several medications. While tuberculosis is a serious condition, it was not immediately believed to have been the cause of his death. Instead, attention remains focused on the potential mishap with electrical equipment.

Authorities have since sent Charnchai's body for an autopsy to establish the exact cause of death. Meanwhile, residents and local authorities are left to grapple with the shock of this tragic incident, which serves as a stark reminder of the hidden dangers that can lurk even within the perceived safety of one's own home. As details continue to emerge, this case has highlighted the importance of electrical safety and routine precautions, especially in older or recently renovated buildings.
