In an unexpected turn of events in Nonthaburi province, near Bangkok, a woman stumbled upon a plastic box containing an astonishing 12 million baht in cash while taking out the rubbish at her condominium. The discovery, made by a resident named Usa, occurred yesterday, June 5, when she noticed the abandoned box near the lift on the fourth floor.

Usa, returning home from work around 7.40pm, initially intended to take the seemingly decent grey plastic box for personal use. However, upon opening it, she found bundles of 1,000-baht notes stacked inside. Understandably shocked and reluctant to count the money, she contacted Pak Kret Police Station for assistance around 8.30pm.

Police arriving at the scene verified that the box indeed contained 12 million baht hidden under men’s sportswear. Alongside the cash were documents, including a withholding tax form and references to the Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), with the name Thaweewat appearing on them.

Initial police investigations revealed that the money had been withdrawn from a bank back in 2020. Officers are exploring the origins and purpose of the money, especially since it was left in a shared residential space. The box and cash have been moved to Pak Kret Police Station for safekeeping while investigations are in progress.

Authorities aim to identify the person responsible by examining any fingerprints left behind and are considering reviewing CCTV footage to trace who may have left the box there. The investigation is also focused on identifying the rightful owner and uncovering the reasons behind abandoning such a large sum of money. As this mystery unfolds, residents in the condominium and the broader community keenly follow updates, eager to learn the story behind this unusual find.

In a peculiar turn of events, the owner of 12 million baht (£270,000) in cash has surfaced to clarify its baffling discovery. The money was recently found in a grey plastic box alongside a condominium lift in Muang Thong Thani, Pak Kret, by a good Samaritan.

The box, which also contained wet clothing and wine bottles, was reportedly forgotten after the owner's room was flooded. On the evening of 5th June, police began an investigation to determine the legality and the rightful owner of the cash.

On 6th June, around 7 PM, Mr. Taweewat presented himself at Pak Kret Police Station, confessing to being the owner of the money. According to him, he had temporarily moved the cash due to water damage in his bathroom, intending to return for it, but he forgot.

Mr. Taweewat, who works as a lawyer, stated his willingness to provide evidence proving ownership. The police, led by Pol. Maj. Gen. Kittithanes Thanananthaveesin, are in the process of verifying his claims, including cross-checking with bank records since the 2020 withdrawal date mentioned in reports.

Currently, the cash remains with the authorities as they confirm the story's veracity and await bank assurances regarding the transaction's legitimacy. Furthermore, investigations continue into Mr. Taweewat's financial history to ensure legal compliance.

Mr. Taweewat reassured that pending proof, he holds no anxiety over the situation, showing confidence in the outcome of ongoing verifications.

Personally, I would have held onto the money, for safekeeping, until the owner turned up to claim it. Better that than a hefty donation to the Policemans' Ball.

Only a lawyer could 'forget " 12 million" !

Either they initially found 20 million, or everyone knows that if you touch this money, you end up in a river.    I've found 100 baht once, kept it.  I'd like to find 20 million and test my moral compass!!!  I would immediately call the police, neighbors, and find the rightful owner.  or not.

will be interesting to see if the lawyer who is so rich he forgot about a big pile of $ and didn't keep it in a bank but in his condo has a good explanation...if he does then next is how much "tip" does he give the lady who found it...better be a really nice bundle to her.

These big money finds have been reported before and cheap charlie non appreciative people give them 10,000 b.

and not bother to put it in a bank ...gee wonder if maybe he did not want a paper trail?

Obviously. a big misunderstanding and the rightful owner, a policeman will be along shortly

to collect it.

Sounds good, but remember 'This ain't no country for old women, old men or old anyone'. I'd probably  toss a coin to see whether or not to keep it.

So if nobody can prove it is theirs in two months or whatever the time is then does she get to keep it ??

This is what happens with items or cash found and handed in usually.

did you mean "only a THAI LAWYER" could forget 12 million ???  555

usually these type of stories are posted by TAT and mostly involve a taxi driver bringing the money to the police station  555

12 million just forgotten in a box in the wardrobe....

This comment I full agree with.  She should be very highly compensated.

Did the police also take the wet clothing and wine bottles for safe custody?

The police are probably the only ones to be cmpensated for giving him back his money.

Am I the only one to think that someone who has 12million in cash stuffed in a plastic box, might be up to no good? I really can’t think of a good reason for doing that.

Taken to the Police Station for safe keeping 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😅

Bet the lawyer is best mates with the cops.

I never meet a honest lawyer and I had a few in Thailand.
