Mistake #1 Relying only on the embassy website

 

Thai embassies often ask for more documents than listed online!

 

For example: remote workers may be asked to provide a company mission statement, their CV or even a motivation letter.

 

Mistake #2 Thinking you must apply from your home country

 

You can apply from certain other countries while on a tourist visa (for example, Cambodia, Indonesia)! Some embassies might even be more flexible & closer to Thailand than your home country embassy. 

 

Mistake #3 Assuming all embassies have the same requirements

 

Each embassy may have its own specific requirements.

 

For example:

 Russia requires every document to be notarized and attested.

 Vietnam &  Indonesia don’t.

 

Mistake #4 Assuming all applicants are treated the same

 

What worked for your friend may not work for you - so plan accordingly! Some embassies (like Vietnam) have restricted nationality lists, or may require extra documents for applicants from certain nationalities.

 

Mistake #5 Assuming home country applications are easy

 

Some embassies (e.g.,  Germany &  Austria) require recent, formal proof of residence. Digital nomads may struggle with providing documents like this.

 

As mentioned earlier, some embassies might even be more flexible & closer to Thailand than your home country embassy!
