True Adsl Modem Installation Using Anothe Modem

Featured Replies

I have a TA TRUE coonection I want to use my own ADSL modem. I am trying to set it up. It is a Linksys ADSL modem.

Question: Do I need to use a TRUE Host and/or Domain name in my set up? If so anyone know what it is? I have tried everything and cannot get the d***m thing to work. Also is it on a PPPoA or PPPoE setting?

Thanks,

Bkkgogs

Hi,

Is it a modem or router? I've just been through the same setting up my router. Had all the settings right, but found out that NAT was disabled. So basically you have to make sure you are using PPPoE LLC, VPI = 0 VCI = 100.

Enable NAT

After you get this right:

For p2p you should

DISABLE DCHP and assign a static IP to your machine

Forward p2p ports from your router to you machine

Hope it helps

Or get a router with Plug and Play - and you don't need to do this...

All routers block ports unless you specifically open them...plug and play or not

Actually - no. That's the point of uPnP on routers.

I can still use Peer to Peer software, while getting my IP address on DHCP.

Right, though from what I read, UPnP NAT Traversal only works on application that support this protocol, still looks promising.
