Rocket Assault on Thai Territory

BANGKOK - Cambodia has launched a series of aggressive attacks against Thai civilians by firing rockets and artillery across the shared border. The strikes resumed for a second day on July 25, targeting deserted homes in the Srivichian subdistrict of Nam Yuen, Ubon Ratchathani. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, as residents had already evacuated to makeshift shelters.

War Crime Allegations Emerge

The Thai army has accused Cambodia of committing war crimes for intentionally aiming at civilian targets, a clear breach of international humanitarian principles. Despite provocations, the Thai air force refrained from targeting civilian areas in return. Major General Winthai Suvari highlighted Cambodia's alleged use of disinformation, blaming Thailand for initiating the border clashes.

Casualties and Counterattacks

The violence has resulted in significant casualties, with a dozen Thai villagers and two soldiers dead, alongside 24 civilians and six soldiers injured. Additionally, a separate attack on a 7-Eleven convenience store at a gas station in Kantharalak led to seven civilian deaths and 14 serious injuries. In response, Thai forces launched airstrikes against Cambodia's military positions, reportedly neutralising several key installations and enemy tanks, according to Thai Newsroom.

Escalating Conflict and Humanitarian Concerns

Amidst the escalating conflict, Thai and Cambodian forces have engaged in intense battles, with drones and tanks now part of the arsenal. Estimates suggest 25 Cambodian soldiers have been killed, with more wounded. The situation underscores growing humanitarian concerns as both nations await international intervention to de-escalate the tensions.

Conclusion

The ongoing conflict along the Thai-Cambodian border continues to endanger lives and violate humanitarian standards. As both nations mobilise their military resources, the international community watches closely, underscoring the need for urgent diplomatic efforts to avoid further escalation.

I don't think it's intentional, their artillery has no accuracy... they fire & hope.
